(c) Make sure the total side play of the control column assembly is 0.01-0.03 inch (0.25-0.76
millimeter).
(d) Make sure the outboard end of the stop on the left side of the forward quadrant assembly
[1] is clear of the inboard face of the bracket by 0.07-0.24 inch (1.8-6.1 millimeters).
(e) If necessary, add or remove shim under the bearing housing.

(6) Install the ring assemblies and dust seals:
(a) Install the forward dust seals [26], aft dust seals [25], forward ring assemblies [21], and aft
ring assemblies [24] with the screws [22] and washers [23].

CAUTION: DO NOT HOLD THE DUST CAP TOO TIGHTLY AGAINST THE WIRE BUNDLE. IT
CAN CAUSE DAMAGE TO THE ELECTRICAL WIRES.
(b) If it is necessary, adjust the dust cap [20] to set the edge of the dust seals lightly up against
the dust caps [20].
1) Loosen the clamps to adjust the dust caps [20].
(c) Make sure the gap between the two dust seals is 0.60 inch (15.2 millimeters).
(d) Fill the gap between the two dust seals with compound, A00225.
(e) Fill the hole between the notch in the dust seals and the cutout in the floor with compound,
A00225.

(7) Remove the rig pin E-1 from the rig pin kit, SPL-1585 from the left side of the forward quadrant
assembly.

(8) Do a check of the control column:
(a) Move the control column full forward then full aft.
1) Make sure the control column operates correctly and smoothly.

(9) Connect the cables EA [2] and cables EB [3] to the forward quadrants assembly [1]
(a) Install the bolts [6], washers [7], and nuts [8] that attach the fairleads [9] to forward
quadrant assembly [1].
(b) Remove the identification tags from the cable EA [2] and cable EA [3].
(c) Install the cables EA [2] and cables EB [3] to the forward quadrants assembly [1].
(d) Install the retainers [4] and screws [10] to the cables EA [2] and cables EB [3].
(e) Remove the control cable clamp, SPL-1569 if installed.

(10) Remove the rig pin E-5 from the rig pin kit, SPL-1585 from the aft control quadrant (Figure 401).

(11) Install the pitch control wheel steering force transducers to the forward quadrant assembly. To
install them, do this task: Pitch Force Transducer Installation, TASK 22-11-92-400-801.

(12) Do this task: Put the Elevator Systems A and B Back to the Condition Before the Pressure
Removal, TASK 27-31-00-840-802.

Cables EA and EB and Pitch Force Transducers - Adjustment, TASK 27-31-00-820-801.
