(c) Remove the nuts [28], washers [27], and bolts [22] from the tab mechanism [34] and tab
pushrods [26].
(d) Remove the nut [25], washer [35], washer [24], and pin assembly [23] that attach the tab
mechanism [34] to the elevator.

(2) Remove the elevator connections to the tab mechanism [34] (Figure 405):
(a) Remove the screws [29] from the pin retainers [30] and rotate the pin retainer [30] arms
away from the bolt [22] heads.
(b) Remove the nuts [31], washers [32], and pin assemblies [21] that attach the tab mechanism
[34] to the elevator.
(c) Remove the nuts [28], washers [27], bolts [22], and spacers [23] that attach the tab
pushrods [26] to the tab mechanism [34].

(3) If you are going to use a sling to remove the elevator, do the following to install the sling,
SPL-2034 to the elevator installation [1] (Figure 403):
NOTE: If you do not use the sling to remove the elevator, you must properly support the
elevator while removing the hinge bolts.

(a) Find the bolts [3] on the elevator installation [1] to attach the sling, SPL-2034.
NOTE: The bolts [3] are on the upper panel next to elevator hinge 3 and hinge 5
(Figure 403).
(b) Remove the bolts [3] from the elevator installation [1].
(c) Install the forward sling fittings on the elevator installation [1].
1) Install the fasteners to attach each sling fitting to the elevator installation [1].
(d) Install the aft sling fitting on the elevator installation [1].
(e) Attach the straps from the forward sling fittings to the aft sling fitting.
(f) Attach the sling, SPL-2034 to the forward sling fittings and aft sling fitting.
(g) Connect an overhead crane to the primary support sling on the sling, SPL-2034.
(h) Connect a tether line to the aft sling fitting.
(i) Use the sling, SPL-2034 to hold the elevator installation [1].

(4) Disconnect the push rod [52] of the elevator position transmitter [51] from the elevator
installation [1] (Figure 406):
(a) Disconnect the electrical connector [53] from the elevator position transmitter [51].
(b) Remove the screw [56], washer [55] and spacer [54] from the pushrod [52].

(5) Remove the nut [57], nut [58], and pin assembly [59] to disconnect the elevator control pushrod
[60] from the elevator installation [1].

(6) Disconnect the balance panels from the elevator installation [1] (Figure 406):
(a) Remove the bolts [62] and washers [63].
(b) Remove the bolts [64] and washers [65].

(7) Remove the elevator installation [1] in the following order (Figure 406):
(a) At elevator hinge 2, remove the pin [78], nut [79], washer [77], bushing [73], bolt [74],
washer [75], and bushing [76].
1) Discard the pin [78].
(b) At elevator hinges 3 and 4, remove the pins [85], nuts [84], washers [83], bushings [82],
washers [81], bolts [80], washers [81], and bushings [82].
1) Discard the pin [85].
(c) At elevator hinge 5, remove pin [90], nut [91], washer [89], bushing [88], washer [87], bolt
[86], washer [87], and bushing [88].
1) Discard the pin [90].
(d) Remove the nuts [99] and washers [100] to disconnect the bonding jumper [98] from the
horizontal stabilizer [2].
(e) At elevator hinges 6, 7, and 8, remove the pins [97], nuts [96], washers [95], bolts [92],
washers [93], and bushings [94].
NOTE: If it is necessary, pull on the tether line to remove the bolts.
1) Discard the pin [97].

(f) At elevator hinge 1, remove the lockwire, pin [72], nut [71], washer [70], bushing [69], bolt
[66], washer [67], and bushing [68]
NOTE: If it is necessary, pull on the tether line to remove the bolt.
1) Discard the pin [72].
(g) Remove the lockwire from the secondary bushing and remove the secondary bushing from
hinge 1.
(h) Remove the elevator installation [1] from the airplane.
