G. Elevator Installation
SUBTASK 27-31-11-640-001
(1) Lubricate the bolts, bushings with grease, D00633 (preferred) or grease, D00015 (alternate).

(2) Install the elevator installation [1] in the order as shown, (Figure 406):
(a) Put the elevator installation [1] at the stabilizer trailing edge.
NOTE: The sling, SPL-2034 can be used to facilitate this task.
(b) At elevator hinges 1 and 2, do these steps:
1) If necessary, install the secondary bushing at hinge 1.
2) Install the hinge 1 bushing [68], washer [67] and bolt [66] with the bolt head outboard.
a) Make sure the clearance between the hinge 1 washer [67] and the flanged bushing
on the elevator hinge is not less than 0.0150 inch (0.381 mm).
3) Loosely install the hinge 1 bushing [69].
NOTE: Do not tighten the hinge 1 bushing [69] until it seats against the horizontal
stabilizer bearing. If you tighten the hinge 1 bushing [69] before you torque the
hinge 2 nut [79], the elevator axial freeplay will not be correct.
4) Loosely install hinge 1 washer [70] and nut [71].

5) Install the hinge 2 bushing [76], bushing [73], washer [75] and bolt [74] with the bolt
head outboard.
a) Install the hinge 2 washer [77] and nut [79] and torque the nut [79] to 90 - 125 poundinches
(10.2 - 14.1 newton-meters).
b) Install the pin [78] in the bolt [74].
GUN 001-099, 101-122, 155, 157, 205, 207-999; GUN 156, 201-204, 206 POST SB 737-55A1080;
AIRPLANES WITH THE SIX HINGE ELEVATOR TAB WITH RECTANGULAR HEAD BOLTS
6) Install the hinge 2 bushing [76], bushing [73], washer [75] and bolt [74] with the bolt
head outboard.
NOTE: Do not install the hinge 2 washer [77], nut [79] or pin [78] at this time.
GUN ALL
(c) At elevator hinges 8, 7, and 6, do these steps:
NOTE: Do the following steps starting at hinge 8, then hinge 7, and then hinge 6.
1) Install the bushings [94], washers [93], and bolts [92] with the bolt head outboard.
a) Make sure the clearance between the washer [93] and the bushing on the elevator
hinge is not less than 0.0150 inch (0.381 millimeter).
2) Install washers [95] and nuts [96].

a) Tighten the nuts [96] to 50 - 75 pound-inches (5.7 - 8.5 newton-meters).
3) Install the new pin [97].
(d) At elevator hinges 3 and 4, do these steps:
1) Install the bushings [82], washers [81] and bolts [80] with the bolt heads outboard.
a) Make sure the clearance between the washer [81] and the bushing on the elevator
hinge is not less than 0.0150 inch (0.381 millimeter).
2) Install washers [83] and nuts [84].
a) Tighten the nuts [84] to 90 - 125 pound-inches (10.2 - 14.1 newton-meters).
3) Install the new pins [85].
(e) At elevator hinge 5, do these steps:
1) Install the bushing [88], washer [87], and bolt [86] with the bolt head outboard.
a) Make sure the clearance between the washer [87] and the bushing on the elevator
hinge is not less than 0.0150 inch (0.381 millimeter).
2) Install washer [89] and nut [91].
a) Tighten the nut [91] to 90 - 125 pound-inches (10.2 - 14.1 newton-meters).
3) Install the new pin [90].
(f) Connect the bonding jumper [98] to the horizontal stabilizer [2]:
1) Install the washers [100] and nuts [99] to attach the bonding jumpers [98] to the
horizontal stabilizer [2].
2) Use the bonding meter, COM-1550 to make sure there is a maximum of 0.010 ohm
between the horizontal stabilizer [2] and elevator installation [1].
3) Seal the bonding jumper ends and fasteners with sealant, A00247.

(3) If the sling, SPL-2034 was used for installation of the elevator, do the following to remove it from
the elevator installation [1] (Figure 403):
(a) Remove the fasteners to disconnect the forward sling fittings from the elevator
installation [1].
(b) Remove the forward sling fittings from the elevator installation [1].
(c) Install the bolts [3] on the elevator installation [1].
(d) Remove the aft sling fitting from the elevator installation [1].

(4) Do an initial check of the elevator full travel by turning the elevator installation [1] full up and full
down by hand.
(a) Make sure the elevator installation [1] moves a minimum of 25.87 degrees trailing edge up
from the neutral index mark and a minimum of 19.53 degrees trailing edge down from the
