(d) Install the bolt shrouds [54] on the left and right assemblies (Figure 402) (View A-A).
NOTE: There is a bolt shroud [54] on the bolt heads and the nut ends of the bolts [44].
GUN ALL
(e) Install the two elevator power control units [6] to the torque tube [18]:
NOTE: Install the left bolt with the bolt head inboard and the right bolt with the bolt head
outboard.
1) Install the bushings [39], bolt assemblies [38], washers [40], and nuts [41].
a) Tighten the nuts [41] to 550-600 pound-inches (62.1-67.8 newton-meters).
CAUTION: DO NOT TIGHTEN THE NUT [41] AGAIN AFTER YOU TIGHTEN THE NUT
[43], YOU CAN CAUSE DAMAGE TO EQUIPMENT.
2) Install the washers [42] and nuts [43].
a) Tighten the nuts [43] to 225-250 pound-inches (25.4-28.2 newton-meters).
(f) If necessary, drill the diameter of the 0.247/0.250 inch (6.27/6.35 millimeters) holes in the
center bearing retainer [31].
(g) Use the drill centering guide adapter to make sure the holes are not out of tolerance.
(h) Install the lockbolts [32] and collars [33] to attach the center bearing retainer [31] to the
bracket.
(i) Connect the four input rods [7] of the two elevator power control units to the input cranks
[12]:
1) Install the bolts [8], washers [9], washers [10], nuts [11].
(j) Connect the feel and centering rod [20] to the input crank [25]:
1) Install the bolt [21], washer [22] (under the bolt), washer [23] (under the nut), and nut
[24].
(k) Install the bolt [14], washers [15], and nut [16] to connect the elevator position sensor rod
[13] to the torque tube [18].
(l) Install the bolt [26], washer [27], washer [28], and nut [29] to connect the autopilot actuator
rod [19] to the input crank [30].

(2) Install the cables EAL, EBL, EAR, and EBR to the quadrants [5]:
(a) Install the bolts [1], washers [3], nuts [4], and cable retainers [2] to attach the cables to the
four quadrants [5].
(b) Remove the clamps from the cables.
(c) Install the turnbuckles locking clips.

E. Torque Tube Installation Test

(2) Turn the elevator slowly by hand through the full travel up and down.
(a) Make sure the elevator moves freely.

(3) Do this task: Put the Elevator Systems A and B Back to the Condition Before the Pressure
Removal, TASK 27-31-00-840-802.

(4) Do this check of the synchronized operation of the elevator power control units:
(a) Turn the FLT CONTROL A switch to OFF and the FLT CONTROL B switch to ON.
1) Make sure the elevator trailing edge move more than 0.02 inch (0.5 millimeter).
2) If it is necessary, adjust the input rods of the power control units. To adjust them, do this
task: Input Rods of the Elevator Power Control Unit - Adjustment,
TASK 27-31-00-820-803.
(b) Turn the FLT CONTROL A switch to ON and the FLT CONTROL B switch to OFF.
1) Make sure the elevator trailing edge move more than 0.02 inch (0.5 millimeter).
2) If it is necessary, adjust the input rods of the power control units. To adjust them, do this
task: Input Rods of the Elevator Power Control Unit - Adjustment,
TASK 27-31-00-820-803.

(5) Adjust the elevator pushrod. To adjust it, do this task: Elevator Control Pushrods - Adjustment,
