SUBTASK 27-31-54-420-001
(1) Install the bearing [12] in the bearing housing [15]:
(a) Put the bearing [12] at the right angle of the bearing housing [15].
(b) Move the bearing [12] in the bearing housing [15] slots. Turn the bearing [12] to the correct
position.

(2) Install the bearing housing [15]:
(a) Put the bearing housing [15] and the shim [8] against the structure.
(b) Install the upper bolts [10], washers [9], and nuts [7] that attach the bearing housing [15] to
the structure.

(c) Install the lower bolts [13], washers [14], washers [16], and nuts [17] on the bearing housing
[15].
SUBTASK 27-31-54-420-003
(3) Install the forward control quadrant assembly [2] to the support bearing:
(a) Install the forward control connector [11] in the bearing housing [15].
(b) Align the spines of the elevator forward control quadrant assembly [2] with the forward
quadrant connector [11].
(c) Install inboard couplings [6] with the bolts [3], washers [4], and nuts [5].
(d) Do these steps to make the clearances equal at each end of each inboard coupling [6]:
1) Tighten the bolts [3] to 50 pound-inches (5.7 newton-meters) of torque.
2) Tighten the bolt [3] and then the other to 50-70 pound-inches (5.7-7.9 newton-meters) in
approximately 10 pound-inch (1.1 newton-meters) increments until you get the
clearances equal to +/- 0.03 inch (+/- 0.76 millimeter) of each other.
(e) Adjust the shim [8] below the bearing housing [15]:
1) Make sure the clearance between the forward quadrant connector [11] and inner race
of the bearing [12] is 0.01-0.03 inch (0.25-0.76 millimeter).
2) Make sure the clearance between lower chord of the floor beam and each side of the
forward control quadrant assembly [2] is 0.06 inch (1.5 millimeters) minimum through
the full travel.
3) If necessary, add or remove shims [8] under the bearing housing [15].

(4) Remove the set, SPL-1747 from the forward control quadrant assembly [2].
