(c) Install the bolt [34], bolt [40], washers [35], and nuts [36].
1) Tighten the nuts [36] to 650 in-lb (73.4 Nm) -- 540 in-lb (61.0 Nm).
2) Install the new pin [37].
NOTE: Tighten nut [36] if it is necessary to get the pin hole alignment but do not
exceed 650 in-lb (73.4 Nm).

(5) Do a check of the dimension between the hinge fitting [24] and bulkhead support structure:
(a) Attach an L-angle shape to the forward side of the bulkhead flange to use as a reference
plane.
(b) Install the dial indicator, STD-1238.
(c) Measure the dimension between the hinge fitting [24] and the bulkhead support structure.

(6) Install the hinge fitting [24] to the bulkhead support structure.
(a) Install the adjustable hinge bushing [28]:
1) Install the adjustable hinge bushing [28] by hand until it touches the hinge fitting
bearing.
2) Use the dial indicator, STD-1238 to measure the dimension between the hinge fitting
[24] and the bulkhead support structure.
3) Make sure this dimension is the same as you measured before.
4) If it is necessary, loosen or tighten the adjustable hinge bushing [28] until you get the
correct dimension.
(b) Install the hinge bushing [17]
1) Lubricate the hinge bushing [17] with compound, D50004.
2) Install the hinge bushing [17].
(c) Install the hinge pin [26]:
1) Lubricate hinge pin [26] and protector, SPL-2036 with grease, D00015.
2) Use the protector, SPL-2036 to install the hinge pin [26].
(d) Install the bushing spacer [23] and nut [18].
1) Tighten the nut [18] by hand.
(e) Install the bolts [2] and washers [3] to attach the bushing retainer [1] to the hinge fitting [24].
(f) Install the bushing retainer [25] on the adjustable hinge bushing [28].
CAUTION: DO NOT APPLY TORQUE TO THE WRENCH FLATS ON THE HINGE PIN. YOU CAN
CAUSE DAMAGE TO THE EQUIPMENT.
(g) Temporarily remove the bushing retainer [25].

(h) Tighten the nut [18] to 650 in-lb (73.4 Nm) -- 850 in-lb (96.0 Nm).
(i) If the pin holes do not align, tighten the nut [18] maximum 30 degrees as necessary to align
the nearest pin hole.
(j) Use the dial indicator, STD-1238 to measure the dimension between the hinge fitting [24]
and bulkhead support structure.
1) Make sure the dimension is the same as you measured before and after you installed
the adjustable hinge bushing [28] in +/- 0.005 inch (+/- 0.13 millimeter).
(k) Do a check of the clearance between the bulkhead support structure and hinge bushing
[17].
1) Remove the bolts [2] and washers [3] to remove the bushing retainer [1].
2) Do a check of the clearance between the bulkhead support structure and hinge bushing
[17].
3) Make sure the clearance is 0.12 +0.07 / -0.08 in. (3.05 +1.78 / -2.03 mm).
4) Install the bolts [2] and washers [3] to attach the bushing retainer [1] to the hinge fitting
[24].
(l) Install the bushing retainer [25] with the hinge insert pin [27].
1) Turn the hinge insert pin [27] until you align the pin holes.
CAUTION: DO NOT APPLY TORQUE TO THE WRENCH FLATS ON THE HINGE PIN. YOU CAN
CAUSE DAMAGE TO THE EQUIPMENT.
(m) Install the washer [21] and nut [19].
1) Tighten the nut [19] to a maximum of 50 in-lb (5.6 Nm).
2) If the pin hole of the nut [19] does not align, loosen the nut [19] a maximum of 30
degrees as necessary to align the nearest pin hole of the nut [19].
3) Install the new pin [20].
(n) Install the bolts [52] to attach the bracket [53] to the bulkhead support structure.
(o) Install the bolts [54] to attach the bracket [55] to the bulkhead support structure.

(7) Remove the L-shape and the dial indicator, STD-1238.

(8) Remove the lock, SPL-1672 from the stabilizer trim wheel at the control stand (Figure 401).

(9) Move the trim control wheel to make sure the stabilizer operates smoothly through the full travel
between the jackscrew stops.

(10) Make sure the clearance between the jackscrew support fitting and the fuselage structure is
0.030 ±0.020 in. (0.76 ±0.51 mm) on the two sides of the stabilizer.
F. Put the Airplane Back to Its Usual Condition
