The inlet fuel goes through the filter and out to the engine-driven low-pressure fuel pump. The
low-pressure fuel pump supplies fuel to the engine high-pressure pump. The high-pressure
pump supplies fuel to a common rail connected to the injectors. A combined pressure relief and
regulator valve at the end of the common rail controls the fuel pressure. Surplus fuel from the
% valve returns to the fuel tank.

(2) Fuel Filter Heating
% There is no fuel filter heating. The fuel filter has a thermostatic bypass.
If the return fuel is warm but not hot, then the thermostatic bypass guides the return fuel from
the engine into the fuel filter. The return fuel mixes with the cold fuel from the tank and increases
the fuel temperature in the fuel filter. This prevents the fuel filter from becoming blocked. No fuel
returns to the airplane fuel system.
If the return fuel is hot, then the thermostatic bypass connects the return fuel from the engine
to the return line of the airplane fuel system. Fuel will return to the left tank through the cooling
loop in the right tank (refer to Chapter 28).
You must examine and replace the filter at the times given in Chapter 05.

Trouble-Shooting
1. General
The table below lists the defects you could have with the engine fuel and control system. It only gives
you the data for the air intake, air filter and fuel filter. For more data on trouble-shooting the engine fuel
and control system refer to the engine manufacturer.
If you have the trouble detailed in the Trouble column read across to the Possible Cause column. Then
do the repair given in the Repair column.
Trouble Possible Cause Repair
Loss of engine power. Blocked air intake. Examine the air intake.
Remove any obstructions.
Refer to Section 71-61.
Dirty/Damaged air filter. Replace the air filter. Refer to
Section 71-61.
Dirty/Damaged fuel filter. Replace the fuel filter.
Look for contaminated fuel in
the airplane fuel system. Refer
to Section 28-21.
Air in fuel distribution system. Bleed the fuel distribution

Maintenance Practices
1. General
This Section tells you how to remove/install the fuel filter. Only an approved TAE 125 repair shop can
repair the engine fuel system. For more data on the engine fuel and control system refer to the engine
manufacturer.
Refer to Section 71-61 for maintenance data on the air filter and alternate air valve. Refer to
Chapter 81 for maintenance data on the turbo-charging system.
2. Remove/Install the Engine Fuel Filter and Replace the Element

WARNING: YOU MUST MAKE SURE THAT THE ENGINE IS SAFE BEFORE YOU
DO WORK ON THE ENGINE. IF THE PROPELLER TURNS IT CAN
CAUSE INJURY TO PERSONS.
(1) Make sure that the engine is safe:
S Set the ELECTRIC MASTER key switch to
OFF.
S Set the ENGINE MASTER switch to OFF.
S Set the power lever to IDLE.
(2) Remove the engine cowlings. Refer to Section 71-11.
% (3) Release the 2 fuel hoses at the fuel filter. Cut the lock wire at the fuel filter
% connections.
Catch the fuel in a suitable container.
(4) Release the 2 worm-drive clamps that attach the
filter to the mounting bracket.
(5) Remove the filter from the airplane.
