NESE: I think religions in the past affected societies such that they are divided into subgroups
which are following different ways. Then the social norms, attributes, behaviors are also affected.
Today, even it is not that much powerful and has changed a lot; it still affects societies. I think it
is also same for politics because people have tendency to follow the politicians who have the
same religion with them.
DAVID: Religions mostly were founded or established themselves to give a framework for living
together in a society. This framework now is provided by laws.
Howewer this means that religion can focus on spendig it’s ethical values.
Wars are not fought because of religion, but despite religion.
ARON: I’d say today the political aspect is that political parties want to win religious groups to
vote for them. But the reality is, in most of the western countries’ religions are falling back.
BOB: It’s social function is helping to cope with reality and share it with others. There should be
no connection between religion and government because of the supposed (by me again) laicism. I
think it only gives people a reason to be divided and complain about what is wrong rather than
what is right.

Philip: no, religion is important for people, out one’s ownbelief shouldn’t be supported by
society(all people).
Bob: religion is (in my opinion) a way of coping with reality as you see it and so everyone has
to deal with it in his/her own way. And on the one hand it should be supported to have a way
coping with reality. But on the other hand I think that a government does not have anything to do
with it, because of the laicism of modern society (although i think it should be this way).
Koray: Govrnments of course shouldn’t support religions.Religion can’t be a tool to govern
countries. On the other hand some of them support religious activities as a kind of public drug
for these kinds of governments.
Juli: I don’t think governments should support religious groups because if they c’t support all its
nations religious groups they shouldn’t. I think governance and religion are 2 different things. I
don’t think they should influence each other because then the question is which religion should
be the one that the government supports. I think it’s every individual’s decision and not the
govenment’s issue.
Agi: In the lands of free thinking it’s not ethical to support any religious goups from taxes.A
religion has a strong manipulative function, every government tries to lead those people who can
be by their belief. We can’t change that.
Nese: I think the government should support both religious and non religious people in equal
way. No separation!
Dietrich: I agree - although in Germany the government supports the christian chuches strongly
out of specific tax money! It should be stopped!
David: What do we call support? Government in Germany collects a tax for christian churches.
There is nothing wrong with that, if it offers this service to other groups. Government supports
religious groups that help people. Politics should nottreat religion differently. Religion is
personal, but it can serve a purpose in society. We should not draw a strict line of support and
non-support.

Dietrich: The ethical values of good business can be followed(traced) back to the Christian
Religion; but they(the values) have rarely been transported by church through the countries.

Agi: I think the rules of businnes come from religion first as the ethical rules did. This is the use
of religion before laws were created, it governed the society and through thss people’s life too.
David: To start with I want to agree with everything said before. I cannot tell, what the world
would look like, if the values had always been transported by churc; but it takes a lot of optimism
to believe that religions could have survived until now, if they could not be misused for political
actions, leading to neglecting the core values of religion.
Philip: If thinks Jesus, the profets etc… got lots of good thinks to say about how you should live
your life. But I do think that the church has been lead by corrupted leaders who are more
interested in wealth and power than the best of christians. Jesus word helped the people not the
leaders; but it was a way for the leaders to control people.
BOB: I think the church at all times is using christianity just to make sure of its future and
therefore did not always do what was best according to the ancient underlying values. Although I
