Coordinates
The geographic latitudinal and longitudinal coordinates for Kangerlussuaq airport (at the apron in front of
the air terminal) are:
67°01 05 North / 050°41 39 West - and the elevation is 50.3 m (165 feet).

Day, night and twilight
Most people spending some time in the field appreciate to know when the sun will rise and set and how
long the twilight will last. Some research projects even require this information.
There are a number of on-line tools available to help you quantify these parameters for any location you
may wish. To start out, please get hold of the exact geographical coordinates, i.e. latitude and longitude, of
your selected site.

Dentist
There is no resident dentist in Kangerlussuaq. Only twice a year a dentist from the Greenland health system
will visit Kangerlussuaq for consultations. Nothing more than an ordinary check and an ordinary cavity filling
can be performed at Kangerlussuaq. All other dental work will have to take place at a dentist's clinic
somewhere else.
Dogs
Kangerlussuaq is located within Sisimiut municipality which is the southernmost sled dog district in West
Greenland. Therefore, Greenland huskies and dog sledding are allowed and practised in Kangerlussuaq
during most winters. Dogs don t run around freely, but are kept in kennels at the westend of town , when
they are not used pulling sleds.

Driving
If you don t want to walk, then a taxi, a city bus, a car, or a bicycle can get you around locally.
Kangerlussuaq taxi
Call 23 75 07 / 23 75 08 Sunday Thursday 6:00 02:00; Friday Saturday: 24 hour service.
Kangerlussuaq Bybus (the city bus)
The bus runs a scheduled route Monday Saturday 8:00 - 19:00 between the airport hotel, Old Camp, ANI
and Hotel Umimmak. A bus ticket costs 10 DKK and is valid for 60 minutes.

In order to drive a vehicle you must have a valid driver s licence from your country or a valid international
driver s licence. Traffic regulations apply to all roads in Greenland.

Duty-free / Tax-free
When arriving in or leaving from Kangerlussuaq travellers can purchase duty-free goods in the airport terminal.
Duty-free importation of goods to Kangerlussuaq may take place only if the traveller brings or purchases
the goods when arriving in Kangerlussuaq from abroad, including Denmark.
Duty-free importation includes ONLY the following total quantities:
200 cigarettes or 50 cigars or 100 cigarillos or 250 g of smoking tobacco
200 sheets of cigarette paper or cigarette wrappers
1 l of spirits (>22 % alcohol per volume) or 2 l of fortified wine (15 - 22 % alcohol per volume)
2.25 l of table wine (< 15 % alcohol per volume)
2 l of beer
2 l of carbonated beverages
50 g of perfume and 250 ml of eau-de-toilette. In addition, cosmetics and other toilet articles up to a
total value of DKK 1,000
Up to 2 kg of chocolate and sweets
1 kg coffee or tea
Up to 5 kg of meat, meat products, or poultry
Please note that alcoholic beverages and tobacco products are NOT to be imported in quantities exceeding
the quantities listed above. If goods imported exceed those quantities, it must be reported to the nearest
Customs Office as soon as possible after entering the country for confiscation and for determination of possible
fines.
