settlement. He has done great
damage further east with his
invasion of Iraq, and the Arab
world will be dealing with the
Islamist radicals whose cause
he has so greatly empowered
for a long time to come; but
the Israeli-Palestinian “peace
process” was already a train
wreck before Bush set foot in
the White House.
Another Israeli newspaper,
the Jerusalem Post, correctly
judged the prospects of the
current initiative when it
wrote: “Once again Israelis
who oppose territorial
concessions can rest quiet
in the knowledge that Arab
leaders look set to doom the
peace process to failure by
waiting for someone else to
move it forward.”
An Arab newspaper might
write with equal justice that
Palestinians who oppose
territorial concessions can rest
quiet in the knowledge that
the Israeli government would
promptly collapse if Prime
Minister Olmert proposed
any steps radical enough to
revive Palestinian faith in the
possibility of a negotiated
peace. It’s over, and the local
leaders are just acting out their
allotted roles in the charade
to keep Washington happy.
President Bush will have to
seek his legacy elsewhere.

A new year 2008, an
old ignored promise by
Mr. Harper continues since
elected date of power. The
(Veterans Independent
Program) V.I.P. for veterans
and veterans’ widows is the
ignored promise. Lacking of
compassion and trust is the
only reinstatement received
from our government on this
most importance issue.
The program is a vital
need of extra monies to
stabilize an active lifestyle
for the veterans and veterans’
widows to continue living in
their own homes.
It seems the fight is
never-ending, even when
the past war battles are
over. Veterans Independent
Program would cost our
government nothing if
compared to the loss of lives
and to those left behind with
non-ending wounds.
This program would show
respect and great honour to
the most important people
of past wars, remaining with
us today.
Veterans and veterans’
widows have to remain
independent in their own
homes for as long a time
their lives allow.
With no assistance from
our government, due to
improper V.I.P. benefits to
help, this means that today’s
veterans and veterans’
widows are becoming forced
from their own homes.
It’s unfair play caused by
government to let this occur,
and Mr. Harper should be
responsible for his promise
to these people of most
importance in our society.
Having to move from their
homes is not what these
people deserve, and a little
understanding from our
government would go a long
way.
There is one lady we
must not forget, the true and
honourable Sampsonville
resident, Mrs. Joyce Carter.
Mrs Carter has battled with
Mr. Harper for many years to
reinstate the V.I.P., followed
with a letdown with every
field of play.
Mr. Harper has ignored
his promise in a shameful
manner, affecting the lives
of veterans and veterans’
widows and shattering
the goals of Mrs. Carter’s
willingness to help others
like herself.
If in any small way the
reader can assist with this
important issue, please do

the government addressing
your concerns.
Sad to say, Mrs. Carter
is in her 80th year along
with many other veterans
and veterans’ widows; this
ignored promise has dragged
on much too long.
A trust in government
with an election promise is
of most importance, as the
V.I.P. should not be ignored
for the people of Canada to
see.
