Access to and activities (regardless of duration) in the National Park of North and East Greenland
(see map) require a permit issued by the Danish Polar Center.
Activities that include studies involving
- persons as study objects in a physiological or medical sense,
- persons as study objects in a sociological or an ethnological sense, or
- sensitive data obtained on any person
require a special permit based on the Helsinki Declaration and issued by the Danish Polar Center.
Activities that include launching of research balloons, application of laser beams, outdoor installation of antennas
or instruments, items harmful to the environment, low level flying, or air drops will also require a
special permit issued by the Danish Polar Center.

to the planned initiation of activities.

civilian or military authorities, access to and transit through Pituffik (aka Thule Air Base ) require a
special permit. Please submit an application no later than 3 weeks before your planned arrival at
Thule Air Base to Danish Ministry of Foreign Affairs (Dept. for the Nordic Region, Faroe Islands and

immobilizing or handling live animals,
collecting whole or parts of protected species, or
collection of biological specimens aimed for potentially commercial use of their genomes

period(s) for activities in Greenland, and
abstract of project objectives and plans (max. 100 words).
The Danish Polar Center will use this kind of input to improve the general coordination and
optimize the dissemination of information about research in Greenland.
