 EIS DMC selector switch This selector switch is used by the Captain (or the First Officer) to select DMC 3 when the DMC 1 (or 2) has failed. In normal operation, this selector switch is in the vertical position (NORM).

 ECAM/ND XFR selector switch

R 1EFF : 401-499, 1 31-60-00Page 28 1 1 Config-2 Aug 01/05 1 1 1CES 1 After the failure of the EWD DU or SD DU, either pilot can call the ECAM system image on his ND DU, by putting the selector to the CAPT position (for the captain), or the F/O position (for the first officer). The pilot can get back his ND by setting the ECAM/ND XFR selector switch back to NORM.

 (9) ECAM control panel (Ref. Fig. 012) The ECAM control panel includes the controls required for operation of the ECAM system:
 (a)
 Two potentiometers which enable the ECAM display units to be switched on and the brightness of the displays to be adjusted.

 (b)
 Four control keys

 -2 identical CLR keys which enable, if the crew pushes them when the CLR light is on, to clear the warning/caution messages and to change the ECAM displays (the engine parameter is not affected by the CLR key),
 -
1 RCL key which enables, if the crew pushes it, to recall an alert which was inhibited or suppressed,

 -
1 STS key which enables the aircraft status page to be called manually.

 (c) Eleven system keys which allow the manual selection of the system synoptic diagrams (SD). When a system is manually selected, the corresponding key light comes on.
 NOTE : As a precaution against jamming, if a key is pushed for
____ more than 30 seconds (3 mn in single display mode), it is considered as failed and its inputs are invalidated. The keys are provided with integral lighting enabling selection by night.
 (d)
 One ALL key which causes all the system pages to appear successively, at about 2 s time intervals, in a given order. This sequencing lasts as long as the key is pushed up to the last system page in the list. When the key is released, the system page displayed at this time stays displayed. The ALL key remains active after a complete failure of the ECAM control panel.

 (e)
 One EMER CANC guarded key which allows the crew to suppress any caution and cancellable warning.

 4. Component Description-System Description

 A. Description
 (1)
 Display management computer (DMC) The DMCs receive from the aircraft systems all information necessary for the elaboration of the different EFIS and ECAM displays. The DMCs acquire several types of signals:

 -Discrete signals,
 -
ARINC 429, programmable bus (High Speed or Low Speed),

 -
ARINC 453, for radar data.

 -
RS 232 buses for shop test

 -
RS 422 buses for FWC messages As a general rule all the signals from the various aircraft sensors and system computers (FWCs, SDACs) are sent redundantly to the DMC3 and one DMC (1 or 2) For example, the DMC 1 receives signals from computers 1 (e.g. FWC 1), but the DMC2 receives the signals from computers 2, whereas the DMC3 receives all signals from source 1 and 2.

 Display unit (DU) The DUs receive digital signals from the DMCs, under a very high speed serial form, A629 buses as well as discrete signals such as ON/OFF signal and analog signals for brightness control. The DUs also receive other specific signals A453 from the DMCs for the weather radar. This concerns only the ND DUs and the PFD DUs (which can also receive ND after PFD/ND transfer). These digital signals represent data and instructions which correspond to the displays to be presented on the DUs. On return buses, the DUs send back to their driving DMC some feedback signals through:

 -A629 RETURN wired to the driving DMC for acknowledge signals and DU failure information
 B. Acquisition/Processing
 The DMCs acquire and process signals received from various aircraft
 sensors in order to generate proper data and instructions which
 correspond to the images to be displayed.
