B. Aircraft Maintenance Configuration
(1)
Make sure that the access platform is in position below the applicable slat 5, zone 515(615).
(2)
Make sure that the TOOL-ZERO LOCKING, FLAP SLAT CTL LEVER (98D27803500001) is installed on the slat/flap control lever.
(3)
Make sure that the No. 5 slat has been removed (Ref. TASK 27-84-67-000-001).

Subtask 57-46-21-420-051
A. Preparation For Installation
WARNING : USE SOLVENTS/CLEANING AGENTS, SEALANTS AND OTHER SPECIAL
_______ MATERIALS ONLY WITH A GOOD SUPPLY OF AIR. OBEY THE MANUFACTURERS INSTRUCTIONS. PUT ON PROTECTIVE CLOTHING. DO NOT GET THEM IN YOUR MOUTH. DO NOT SMOKE. DO NOT BREATHE THE GAS. THESE MATERIALS ARE POISONOUS, FLAMMABLE AND SKIN IRRITANT. GET MEDICAL HELP IF YOUR SKIN OR EYES BECOME IRRITATED.
(1) Use a plastic spatula to remove the sealant from the component interfaces.
(2) Clean the component interfaces and/or the adjacent area with a MISCELLANEOUS (Material No. 19-003) made moist with CLEANING AGENTS (Material No. 11-003).
(3) Do an inspection of the component interface and/or the adjacent area.

R B. Installation of the Spherical Bearings of the No. 5 Slat
R (1) Install the spherical bearing (9) at position D as follows:
(a) Apply SEALANTS (Material No. 09-013) to the mating surfaces of the spherical bearing (9) and the slat structure. Make sure that the sealant does not go onto the internal surfaces of the spherical bearing (9).
R R (b) Install the new spherical bearing (9). Make sure that the spherical bearing housing aligns correctly with the projection on the slat rib.
R (c) Install the new tab washer (1) and the new nut (2).
(d) TORQUE the nut (2) to between 1.2 and 1.5 m.daN (106.19 and 132.74 lbf.in). Make sure that you can safety the nut (2) with the tab washer (1).
(e) Safety the nut (2) with the tab washer (1).
(f) Apply a bead of SEALANTS (Material No. 09-016) to the nut (2), the tab washer (1) and the adjacent slat structure. Make sure that the sealant does not go onto the internal surfaces of the spherical bearing (9).
R (2) Install the spherical bearing (8) at position D as follows:
(a) Apply SEALANTS (Material No. 09-013) to the mating surfaces of the spherical bearing (8) and the slat structure. Make sure that the sealant does not go onto the internal surfaces of the spherical bearing (8).
R R (b) Install the new spherical bearing (8). Make sure that the spherical bearing housing aligns correctly with the projection on the slat rib.
R (c) Install the new tab washer (7) and the new nut (6).
(d) TORQUE the nut (6) to between 1.2 and 1.5 m.daN (106.19 and 132.74 lbf.in). Make sure that you can safety the nut (6) with the tab washer (7).
(e) Safety the nut (6) with the tab washer (7).
(f) Apply a bead of SEALANTS (Material No. 09-016) to the nut (6), the tab washer (7) and the adjacent slat structure. Make sure that the sealant does not go onto the internal surfaces of the spherical bearing (8).
R (3) Install the spherical bearing (5) at position B asa follows:
(a) Apply SEALANTS (Material No. 09-013) to the mating surfaces of the spherical bearing (5) and the slat structure. Make sure that the sealant does not go onto the internal surfaces of the spherical bearing (5).
R R (b) Install the new spherical bearing (5). Make sure that the spherical bearing housing aligns correctly with the projection on the slat rib.
