(b)
Push the loading block by hand until the trailing edge of each elevator aligns with the index mark, then release.
(c)
If either of the trailing edges move when released, use the spring scale and the loading block to move them back. 1) Measure and write down the maximum force needed to slowly
move the elevator back to the neutral position (index mark). 2) Measure the force at the time the elevator reaches the neutral position (index mark). 3) Make sure the difference between these two forces is not more than one pound. 4) Write down the difference between these two forces.
(d)
If either of the trailing edges stay at the index mark, use the spring scale and the loading block to move them. 1) Measure the force that you use to move the trailing edge up
2.0 |1.0 inches from the index mark. 2) Note this force. 3) Measure the force that you use to move the trailing edge
down 2.0 |1.0 inches from the index mark. 4) Make sure the difference between these two forces is not more than one pound. 5) Write down the difference of these two forces.
(e) Move each elevator by hand through full travel in the two directions. 1) Make sure the elevators move smoothly and freely.

Connect each elevator control pushrod to its elevator:
(a)
Make sure the elevator trailing edges are in the full down position.
CAUTION: MAKE SURE YOU INSTALL THE CLEVIS OF THE ELEVATOR CONTROL
_______ PUSHROD CORRECTLY. YOU CAN CAUSE DAMAGE TO THE ELEVATORS WHEN YOU MOVE THE COLUMNS.
(b) Remove the DO-NOT-MOVE tags and slowly move the control columns fully forward.

Hold the control columns at the fully forward position and attach DO-NOT-MOVE tags
(d)
Install each mounting bolt with the bolt head inboard.
(e)
Tighten the first lock nut to 500-600 pound-inches.
CAUTION: DO NOT TRY TO TIGHTEN THE FIRST LOCKNUT AGAIN AFTER YOU
_______ TIGHTEN THE SECOND LOCKNUT. YOU CAN CAUSE DAMAGE TO THE COMPONENT.
(f) Tighten the second locknut 150-220 pound-inches.

(8) Do this task: "Put the Elevator Hydraulic Systems A and B Back to the Condition Before the Pressure Removal" (Ref 27-31-00/201).

ELEVATOR TABS - REMOVAL/INSTALLATION

1. General_______
A. This procedure has two tasks, one for the removal and one for the installation of the elevator tab. The procedure has these parts:
(1)
The removal of the elevator tab
(2)
The installation of the replacement elevator tab.
B.
When it is necessary to balance the elevator tabs, add or remove the tab weight on the elevator in balance bay No. 2. The tab weight is on the data plate on each elevator tab. Refer to Chapter 51 of the Structural Repair Manual when the part numbers of the replacement tab and the removed tab are not the same.
