Procedure

 S 224-011
 (1)  
Do a check for the worn parts at the balance panel hinges
 (AMM 27-31-41/601).

 (2)  
Install the idler hinge (9) and the idler hinge seal (10) to the stabilizer support beam (8).

 (3)  
Install the flat seals (7) at the idler hinge (9):

 (a)  
Loosely install the bolts up through the flat seal (7), the idler hinge seal (10), and the idler hinge (9).

 (b)  
Move the flat seal (7) to get a clearance of 0.01 +0.06/-0.00 inch between the flat seal (7) and the stabilizer trailing edge rib (1).

 (c)  
Move the idler hinge (9) to make sure the idler hinge seal (10) stays loose for all elevator positions.

 (d)  
Tighten the flat seal bolts.

 (4)  
Install the elevator balance panel (3):

 (a)  
Put the panel (3) in the balance bay.

 (b)  
Loosely install the six bolts (4).

 (c)  
Carefully install the hinge seal (6) between the elevator nose (11) and the hinge half.

 (d) (e) (f) (g) (h) (i) (j) (k) (l)  Make sure there is a clearance of 0.05 |0.02 inch between the elevator nose (11) and the hinge half.Tighten the bolts (4).Make sure the idler hinge (9) is turned down from the stabilizer support beam (8).Loosely install eleven bolts (5) up throught the forward end of the balance panel (3), the idler hinge seal (10), and the idler hinge (9).Manually move the elevator through the full range of travel.Make sure the idler hinge seal (10) stays loose for all elevator positions.Tighten the bolts (5).Install the bulb seals (2) at the balance panel (3): 1) Loosely install the bolts.Install each bulb seal with a clearance of 0.02 +/- 0.01 inch between the stabilizer rib and the bulb seal.
 (m)  Make sure there is a 0.20 clearance inch between the forward end of the bulb seal (2) and the aft end of the flat seal (7).
 NOTE:____ If it is necessary, loosen the flat seal bolts and set the flat seal to get the necessary clearance.
 (n)  Tighten the bulb seal bolts.

 (5)  Remove the rig pin E-5 from the aft control quadrant.

 (6)  Do this task: "Put the Elevator Hydraulic Systems A and B Back to the Condition Before the Pressure Removal" (AMM 27-31-00/201).

 (7)  Do a test of the elevator balance panels (AMM 27-31-41/501).

 (8)  Close the access doors 3801 or 3802.
