(a)  
Release the tension in the elevator control cables at the turnbuckles in the stabilizer jackscrew compartment.

 NOTE: Do not disconnect the turnbuckles.

 CAUTION: MAKE SURE YOU INSTALL A SUPPORT FOR THE FORWARD QUADRANT
_______ BEFORE AND AFTER YOU REMOVE THE COUPLING. IF YOU DO NOT HOLD THE FORWARD QUADRANT CORRECTLY, YOU CAN CAUSE DAMAGE TO EQUIPMENT.
 (b)  
Install the set, C27063-1 to support the forward quadrant assembly.

 (c)  
Remove the two coupling bolts to remove the inboard coupling.

 (d)  
Remove the connector from the bearing housing.

 (e)  
Remove the four mounting bolts that attach the bearing housing to the airplane structure.

 (f)  
Remove the bearing housing and the shims from the airplane.

 (g)  
Turn the bearing at the right angles to the housing.

 (h)  
Align the bearing with the slots in the housing.

 (i)  
Remove the bearing.

 D. Procedure
 S 424-009
 (1)  
Install the support bearing:

 (a)  
Set the replacement bearing at a right angle to the housing.

 (b)  
Move the bearing in the housing slots and turn it to the position.

 (c)  
Set the bearing housing and the shims against the structure.

 (d)  
Install the four mounting bolts with the bolt heads inboard. 1) Install a washer below the two lower bolt heads and the

 four nuts.
 2) Tighten the nuts.

 (e)  
Align the forward control quadrant.

 (f)  
Move the connector through the bearing housing to engage the splines on the quadrant.

 (g)  
Install the inboard coupling and its bolts.

 (h)  
Tighten the bolts to get equal clearances at each end of the coupling clamp: 1) Tighten the bolts hand toght. 2) Tighten one bolt and then the other to 50-70 pound-inches

 (in approximately 10 pound-inch increments) until you get equal clearances in the tolerance of 0.03 inch.

 (i)  
Examine the clearance between the connector and the inner race of the bearing. 1) Make sure the clearance is in 0.01-0.03 inch. 2) Measure the clearance of the opposite connector against the

 bearing. 3) If it is necessary, add or remove the shims below the bearing housing to adjust the clearance.

 (j)  
Remove the set, C27063-1 from the forward control quadrant assembly.

 (2)
Do this task: "Control Column Installation" (Ref 27-31-51/401).

 (3)  
Remove the rig pins E-1 and E-5.

Move the control column in the longitudinal direction in full travel.

Make sure the control column moves freely.
