(a) Install the sling, SPL-2042 on the aileron and tab assembly [1] (Figure 401).
1) At hinge 2, do these steps (Figure 402):
a) Remove the bolts [35], washers [14], radial seal retainer [37] and radial seal [39];
b) Remove the bolts [29], washers [14], radial seal retainer [33] and radial seal [31];
c) Remove and discard the pin [17]; retain the nut [18], washer [19], bushing [20],
washer [21] and bolt [22].
2) At hinge 5, do these steps (Figure 402):
a) Remove the bolts [61], washers [14], and radial seal retainer [62];
b) Remove the bolts [52], washers [14], radial seal retainer [53] and radial seal [54];
c) Remove and discard the pin [55]; retain the nut [56], washer [57], bushing [58],
washer [59], and bolt [60].
3) Attach the outboard C-bracket to the outboard clevis with the ball lock pin (Figure 401).
4) Attach the inboard C-bracket to the inboard clevis with the ball lock pin (Figure 401).
5) Put the sling in position around the trailing edge of the aileron and tab assembly [1]
(Figure 401).
6) Attach the inboard clevis to hinge 5 with the attached ball lock pins (Figure 401).
7) Attach the outboard clevis to hinge 2 with the attached pins (Figure 401).
8) Lift the sling with a cable and hook to hold the aileron and tab assembly [1].

(2) Remove the aileron and tab assembly [1] with the sling, SPL-2042 attached.
(a) At hinge 6, do these steps (Figure 402):
1) Remove the bolts [73] that attach the removable fairing [74] to the aileron and tab
assembly [1];
2) Remove the removable fairing [74];
3) Remove and discard the pin [77]; retain the nut [78], washer [76], bushing [75], washer
[72] and bolt [71] to disconnect the aileron control rod [67] from the aileron and tab
assembly [1];
4) Remove the nut [82] and washer [83] to disconnect the bonding jumper [84] from the
structure.
(b) At hinge 1, do these steps (Figure 402):
1) Remove the bolts [23], washers [14], radial seal retainer [24] and radial seal [25];
2) Remove the bolts [15], washers [14], radial seal retainer [16];
3) Remove the nut [11] and washer [12] to disconnect the bonding jumper [13] from the
structure.
(c) At hinge 3, do these steps (Figure 402):
1) Remove the bolts [36], washers [14], radial seal retainer [38] and radial seal [40];
2) Remove the bolts [30], washers [14], radial seal retainer [34] and radial seal [32].
(d) At hinge 4, do these steps (Figure 402):
1) Remove the bolts [86], washers [14], radial seal [85] and radial seal retainer [87];.
2) Remove the bolts [43], washers [14], radial seal retainer [44] and radial seal [42];.

3) Remove and discard the pins [45]; retain the nuts [46], washers [47], bushings [48],
washers [49] and bolts [50] to disconnect the two tab control rods [41] from the forward
fittings.
(e) Remove the hinge seals [7] from the balance panels [5]:
1) Remove the bolts [4], bolts [6], bolts [27], bolts [8] with collars [9] and balance weights
[26];
2) Remove the bolts [3] and balance weights [28];
3) Remove the hinge seals [7] from the balance panels [5].
4) Remove and discard the pins [63]; retain the nuts [64], washers [65] (under the nut), and
bolts [66] to remove the aileron and tab assembly [1] from the aileron balance panels
[5].
NOTE: The washer under the bolt is bonded to the hinge half.
(f) At hinge 6, do this step:
1) Remove and discard the pin [81]; retain the nut [80], washer [79], bushing [68], washer
[69], and bolt [70].
(g) At hinges 1, 3 and 4, do this step:
1) Remove and discard the pins [17]; retain the nuts [18], washers [19], bushings [20],
