G. Aileron Installation
SUBTASK 27-11-11-220-001
(1) If you install used bolts, bushings, bearings or other components with worn areas, do this task:
Aileron Inspection, TASK 27-11-11-200-801.

(2) If you removed the aileron balance tab [2], do this task: Aileron Balance Tab Installation,
TASK 27-11-21-400-801 or Aileron Tab Control Rods Installation, TASK 27-11-34-400-801.

(3) Make sure the correct number of balance weights [28] are installed on the lower surface of the
aileron balance panels 3 and 4 (SRM 51-60-01).

(4) Install the aileron and tab assembly [1] with the sling, SPL-2042 (Figure 401, Figure 402).
(a) Make sure the sling, SPL-2042 is installed on the aileron and tab assembly [1]. If the sling,
SPL-2042 is not installed, do these steps to install it (Figure 401):
1) Attach the outboard C-bracket to the outboard clevis with the ball lock pin (Figure 401)
2) Attach the inboard C-bracket to the inboard clevis with the ball lock pin (Figure 401)
3) Put the sling in position around the trailing edge of the aileron and tab assembly [1]
(Figure 401)
4) Attach the inboard clevis to hinge 5 with the attached ball lock pins (Figure 401)
5) Attach the outboard clevis to hinge 2 with the attached ball lock pins (Figure 401)
6) Lift the sling with a cable and hook to hold the aileron and tab assembly [1]
(Figure 401).

(5) Install the aileron and tab assembly [1] on the hinges (Figure 402):
(a) Apply grease, D00633 to the outer diameters of all hinge bolts and bushings and inner
diameters of bearings;
(b) Put the aileron and tab assembly [1] in position to install;

(c) Align the hinges with the support fittings
(d) Connect the aileron and tab assembly [1] at hinge 6.
1) Install the bolt [70], washer [69], bushing [68], washer [79] and nut [80];
2) Tighten the nut [80] to 160-240 pound-inches (18.1-27.1 newton-meters);
NOTE: Tighten the nut [80] to the lower end of the torque range. Continue to tighten
the nut until the next castellation aligns with the hole in the bolt [70].
3) Install the new pin [81].
(e) Connect the aileron and tab assembly [1], in the sequence that follows, at hinges 1, 4 and 3.
NOTE: To install the pin in hinge 4, hold the aileron from below.
1) Install the bolts [22], washers [21], bushings [20], washers [19] and nuts [18].
2) Tighten the nuts [18] to 50-80 pound-inches (5.6-9.0 newton-meters);
NOTE: Tighten the nut [18] to the lower end of the torque range. Continue to tighten
the nut until the next castellation aligns with the hole in the bolt [22].
3) Install the new pins [17].
(f) Remove the sling, SPL-2042 from the aileron and tab assembly [1] (Figure 401).
1) Remove the outboard clevis from hinge 2;
2) Remove the inboard clevis from hinge 5;
3) Remove the sling, SPL-2042 from the trailing edge of the aileron [1];
4) Remove the ball lock pin and disconnect the outboard clevis from the outboard Cbracket;
5) Remove the ball lock pin and disconnect the inboard clevis from the inboard C-bracket.
(g) Connect the aileron and tab assembly [1] at hinge 5.
1) Install the bolt [60], washer [59], bushing [58], washer [57] and nut [56].
2) Tighten the nut [56] to 160-240 pound-inches (18.1-27.1 newton-meters).
NOTE: Tighten the nut [56] to the lower end of the torque range. Continue to tighten
the nut until the next castellation aligns with the hole in the bolt [60].
3) Install the new pin [55].
(h) Connect the aileron and tab assembly [1] at hinge 2.
1) Install the bolts [22], washers [21], bushings [20], washers [19] and nuts [18];
2) Tighten the nuts [18] to 50-80 pound-inches (5.6-9.0 newton-meters);
NOTE: Tighten the nut [18] to the lower end of the torque range. Continue to tighten
the nut until the next castellation aligns with the hole in the bolt [22].
3) Install the new pins [17].
(i) Align the aileron and tab assembly [1] with the balance panels [5].
1) Make sure the washer under the bolt is bonded to the hinge half.
a) If it is necessary, bond the washer to the hinge half with sealant, A00247.
2) Install the bolts [66], washers [65], nuts [64].
3) Tighten the nuts [64] to 25-35 pound-inches (2.8-4.0 newton-meters).
NOTE: Tighten the nut [64] to the lower end of the torque range. Continue to tighten
the nut until the next castellation aligns with the hole in the bolt [66].
