18. MMEL 27-21 (DDPG) Preparation - STBY RUD ON Light Inoperative
A. General
(1) This task gives the maintenance steps which prepare the airplane for flight with the STBY RUD
ON indicator light inoperative (illuminated).
(2) The STBY RUD ON indicator light is located on the P5-3 overhead panel.

WARNING: MAKE SURE THAT PERSONS AND EQUIPMENT ARE CLEAR OF ALL CONTROL
SURFACES BEFORE YOU SUPPLY HYDRAULIC POWER. AILERONS, RUDDERS,
ELEVATORS, FLAPS, SLATS, SPOILERS, LANDING GEAR, AND THRUST REVERSERS
CAN MOVE QUICKLY WHEN YOU SUPPLY HYDRAULIC POWER. THIS CAN CAUSE
INJURY TO PERSONS AND DAMAGE TO EQUIPMENT.
(1) Pressurize the speed brake hydraulic systems A and B. To pressurize them, do this task: Speed
Brake Hydraulic Systems A and B Pressurization, TASK 27-62-00-800-801.

(2) Do these steps:
(a) Make sure that the LOW PRESSURE A and B lights on the P5-3 panel are not illuminated.
(b) Push the captain’s left rudder pedal forward until it touches the stop and hold for 10
seconds.
(c) Release the captain’s left rudder pedal.
(d) Push the captain’s right rudder pedal forward until it touches the stop and hold for 10
seconds.
(e) Release the captain’s right rudder pedal.
(f) Make sure that the STBY RUD ON light is illuminated.

(3) Open this circuit breaker and install safety tag:

(4) Make sure that the STBY RUD ON light is not illuminated.

(5) Do a test of the rudder travel test:
(a) Set the FLT CONTROL A switch on the P5-3 panel to the ON position and FLT CONTROL B
switch to the OFF position.
(b) Push the captain’s left rudder pedal forward until it touches the stop and hold.
1) Measure the rudder travel.
2) Make sure that the dimension is more than 26 inches rudder trailing edge left.
3) Release the captain’s left rudder pedal.
(c) Push the captain’s right rudder pedal forward until it touches the stop and hold.
1) Measure the rudder travel.
2) Make sure that the dimension is more than 26 inches rudder trailing edge right.
3) Release the captain’s right rudder pedal.
(d) Set the FLT CONTROL B switch on the P5-3 panel to the ON position and FLT CONTROL A
switch to the OFF position.
(e) Push the captain’s left rudder pedal forward until it touches the stop and hold.
1) Measure the rudder travel.
2) Make sure that the dimension is more than 26 inches rudder trailing edge left.
3) Release the captain’s left rudder pedal.
(f) Push the captain’s right rudder pedal forward until it touches the stop and hold.
1) Measure the rudder travel.
2) Make sure that the dimension is more than 26 inches rudder trailing edge right.
3) Release the captain’s right rudder pedal.

(6) Attach an INDICATOR INOP placard to the STBY RUD ON indicator on the P5-3 panel.

(7) Do this task: Put the Rudder Hydraulic systems A, B, and Standby Back to the Condition
Before the Pressurization, TASK 27-21-00-840-801.
