(1) If you install used bearings, bushings and bolts, do this task: Aileron Balance Tab Inspection,
TASK 27-11-21-200-801.

(2) Make sure the balance panels have the correct number of the tab adjust weights (Figure 402).
(a) If it is necessary, add or remove tab adjust weights (SRM 51-60-03).

(3) Lubricate the hinge bearings, bushings [18], [26], [35], [36] and bolts [24], [19], [33] with grease,
D00633 except on the threads (Figure 401).

(4) Install the aileron balance tab assembly [2]:
(a) Put the aileron balance tab assembly [2] in its position.
(b) Install the hinge fittings on the aileron balance tab assembly [2] with the fittings on the
aileron [1].
1) Do these steps at tab hinges 1, 4, and 5:
a) Install the bolts [33], washers [34], bushings [35], bushings [36], washers [39], and
nuts [38].
b) Tighten the nuts [38] to 50-80 pound-inches (5.6-9.0 newton-meters).
NOTE: Tighten the nuts [38] to the lower end of the torque range. Continue to
tighten the nut until the first castellation aligns with the hole in the bolt [33].
c) Install a new pin [37].
2) Do these steps at tab hinges 3:
a) Install the bolt [24], washer [25], bushings [26], washer [27], and nut [28].
b) Tighten the nut [28] to 50-80 pound-inches (5.6-9.0 newton-meters).
NOTE: Tighten the nut [28] to the lower end of the torque range. Continue to
tighten the nut until the first castellation aligns with the hole in the bolt [24].
c) Install a new pin [23].
3) Do these steps at tab hinge No. 2:
a) Install the bolt [19], washer [20], bushing [18], washer [21], and nut [17].
b) Make sure there is a minimum 0.0150 inch (0.38 millimeter) gap between the
bushing and washer (Figure 401)(View A-A).
c) Tighten the nut [17] to 50-80 pound-inches (5.6-9.0 newton-meters).
NOTE: Tighten the nut [17] to the lower end of the torque range. Continue to
tighten the nut until the first castellation aligns with the hole in the bolt [19].
d) Install a new pin [22].
(c) Install the bonding jumpers [29] at tab hinges No. 1 and No. 5:
1) Install bolts [30], washers [31], nuts [32].
2) Fillet seal the bonding jumper joints with sealant, A00247 or sealant, A02315.
(d) Install the hinge covers [5] to close the hinge bolt access areas.
1) Install the hinge covers [5] with washers [4] and bolts [3].
2) Make sure the washer [4] touches the aileron balance tab assembly [2] on a minimum
of two edges.
3) Tighten the bolts [3] to 22-28 pound-inches (2.5-3.2 newton-meters).
(e) Connect the control rods [10] to the aileron balance tab assembly [2]:
1) Install bolts [14], washers [15], bushings [16], washers [13], and nuts [11].
a) Make sure there is a minimum 0.0150 inch (0.38 millimeter) gap between the
bushing and washer [15] (Figure 401) (View A-A).

2) Tighten the nuts [11] to 50-80 pound-inches (5.6-9.0 newton-meters).
3) Install the pin [12].

(5) Install the bolts [6] to attach the aft removable fairing [7] to the aileron balance tab assembly [2].

(6) Install the bolts [8] to attach the forward removable fairing [9] to the aileron [1].
(a) Apply sealant, A02315, to the upper edge of the forward removable fairing [9] to get
aerodynamic smoothing.

(7) Operate the aileron control wheel through full travel.
(a) Make sure the aileron balance tab assembly [2] moves freely in the opposite direction to
the aileron [1].
