4) Make sure the gap between the bushings and the washers [65] is 0.01 inch (0.25
millimeter) minimum.
5) Install the new pins [63].
(j) Attach the hinge seals [7] to the aileron balance panels [5].

a) Make sure the correct number of balance weights [28] are installed on aileron
balance panels 3 and 4 (SRM 51-60-01).
2) Apply compound, C00528 to bolts [3], [4], [6] and [27].
3) Install balance weights [28] with bolts [3].
4) Install balance weights [26] with the bolts [8] with collars [9], bolts [27], bolts [6], and
bolts [4].
(k) At Hinge 4, Connect the tab control rods [41] to the forward fittings.
1) Install the bolts [50], washers [49], bushings [48], washers [47] and nuts [46].
2) Tighten the nuts [46] to 50-80 pound-inches (5.6 9.0 newton-meters).
NOTE: Tighten the nut [46] to the lower end of the torque range. Continue to tighten
the nut until the next castellation aligns with the hole in the bolt [50].
3) Install the new pins [45].
4) At hinge 1, do these steps:
a) Install the radial seal retainer [16], washers [14] and bolts [15];
b) Install the radial seal [25], radial seal retainer [24], washers [14] and bolts [23];.
c) Connect the bonding jumper [13] with washer [12] and nut [11].
5) At hinge 2, do these steps:
a) Install the radial seal [31], radial seal retainer [33], washers [14] and bolts [29];
b) Install the radial seal [39], radial seal retainer [37], washers [14] and bolts [35].
6) At hinge 3, do these steps:
a) Install the radial seal [32], radial seal retainer [34], washers [14] and bolts [30];
b) Install the radial seal [40], radial seal retainer [38], washers [14] and bolts [36].
7) At hinge 4, do these steps:
a) Install the radial seal [42], radial seal retainer [44], washers [14] and bolts [43];
b) Install the radial seal [87], radial seal retainer [85], washers [14] and bolts [86].
8) At hinge 5, do these steps:
a) Install the radial seal [54], radial seal retainer [53], washers [14] and bolts [52];
b) Install the radial seal retainer [62], washers [14] and bolts [61].

(6) Install the aileron and tab assembly [1] without the sling, SPL-2042 (Figure 401).
(a) Install the aileron and tab assembly [1] on the hinges:
1) Apply grease, D00633 to the outer diameters of all hinge bolts and bushings and inner
diameters of bearing.
2) Put the aileron and tab assembly [1] in position to install.
3) Align the hinges with the support fittings.
4) Connect the aileron and tab assembly [1] at hinges 1, 2, 3 and 4.

a) Install the bolts [22], washers [21], bushings [20], washers [19] and nuts [18].
b) Tighten the nuts [18] to 50-80 pound-inches (5.6-9.0 newton-meters).
NOTE: Tighten the nut [18] to the lower end of the torque range. Continue to
tighten the nut until the next castellation aligns with the hole in the bolt
[22].
c) Install the new pins [17].
5) Connect the aileron and tab assembly [1] to hinge 5.
a) Install the bolt [60], washer [59], bushing [58], washer [57] and nut [56].
b) Tighten the nut [56] to 160-240 pound-inches (18.1-27.1 newton-meters).
NOTE: Tighten the nut [56] to the lower end of the torque range. Continue to
tighten the nut until the next castellation aligns with the hole in the bolt
[60].
c) Install the new pin [55].
6) Connect the aileron and tab assembly [1] at hinge 6;
a) Install the bolt [70], washer [69], bushing [68], washer [79] and nut [80].
b) Tighten the nut [80] to 160-240 pound-inches (18.1-27.1 newton-meters).
NOTE: Tighten the nut [80] to the lower end of the torque range. Continue to
tighten the nut until the next castellation aligns with the hole in the bolt
[70].
c) Install the new pin [81].
(b) Align the aileron and tab assembly [1] with the aileron balance panels [5].
1) Make sure the washer under the bolt is bonded to the hinge half.
a) If it is necessary, bond the washer to the hinge half with sealant, A00247.
2) Install the bolts [66], washers [65], nuts [64].
3) Tighten the nuts [64] to 25-35 pound-inches (2.8-4.0 newton-meters).
NOTE: Tighten the nut [64] to the lower end of the torque range. Continue to tighten
the nut until the next castellation aligns with the hole in the bolt [66].
