A. Prepare the Vertical Stabilizer for Installation
(1)
Clean all vertical stabilizer attach fittings with CLEANING AGENTS (Material No. 11-008).
(2)
Make sure that the parts retained from the removed component are clean and in the correct condition.
(3)
Clean the component interface and/or the adjacent area.
(4)
Do an inspection of the component interface and/or the adjacent area.

A. Installation of the Vertical Stabilizer
(1)
Put the crane with the SLING - R/I VERTICAL STABILIZER AND RUDDER in position and attach the cables to the hoist fittings.
(2)
Remove the support connections, lift the vertical stabilizer clear of the support and move it to the install position on the aircraft.
(3)
Operate the crane and slowly tighten the sling cables and adjust the turnbuckles as necessary to get an equal tension.
(4)
Install CENTERING BOLTS - VERT. STABILIZER (98D55307503001) in the forward attach fittings.
(5)
Install CENTERING BOLTS - VERT. STABILIZER (98D55307503001) in the aft attach fittings.
(6)
Install the split sleeves and the attach bolts.
(Ref. Fig. 405/TASK 55-31-11-991-006)
NOTE : At the forward attach fittings install the split sleeves (52)
____ from inboard. At the mid and the aft attach fittings install the split sleeves (52) from outboard.

(a) Apply COMMON GREASE (Material No. 04-004) to the mid attach fitting split sleeves (52) and install them.
R R R R R CAUTION : APPLY AND KEEP A CONTINUOUS PRESSURE WITH YOUR HAND TO_______ THE INBOARD SIDE OF THE SPLIT SLEEVE. THIS MAKES SURE THAT THE SLEEVE STAYS FLUSH AT THE FITTING UNTIL YOU INSTALL AND TORQUE THE TAPERED BOLT AND THE NUT. THIS WILL PREVENT DAMAGE TO THE SPLIT SLEEVE.
(b) Apply COMMON GREASE (Material No. 04-004) to the mid attach fitting bolts (53) and install them.
(c) Install, but do not tighten, the nuts (51) and the washers (66).
R R (d) Do steps (a) to (c) for the forward and then the aft attach fittings.
NOTE : Only remove one centering bolt at a time and install a____ split sleeve.
(7) Move the stabilizer until the distance 'X' is more than 0.5 mm (0.0196 in.) at each fitting.
(8) Use the WRENCHES - NOTCHED, TIGHTENING OF NUTS NSA5454 (SL90-322-5625) and do as follows:
(a) TORQUE the nuts (51) to 30 m.daN (221.23 lbf.ft).
(b) Loosen the nuts (51) to 7 m.daN (51.62 lbf.ft).
(c) TORQUE the nuts (51) to between 18 and 20 m.daN (132.74 and 147.49 lbf.ft).
(d) Use the TOOL - INSTALLATION, TAB WASHERS STA-LOK NSA5454 (SL90-313-5625) and install the tab washers (50) at the slotted nuts (51).
(9) Install the transverse load forks. (Ref. Fig. 405/TASK 55-31-11-991-006)
(a) Put the transverse load forks (54) into position.
(b) Apply COMMON GREASE (Material No. 04-004) to the bushes (57), (58) and (65) and install them.
(c) Install the bolts (60).
(d)
If necessary adjust the length of the transverse load forks (54):
(e)
Remove and discard the lockwire.
(f)
Loosen the nuts (67).
(g)
Turn the center rod (68) as necessary to get the correct length of the transverse load fork.
(h)
Tighten the nuts (67) and TORQUE to 1.2 m.daN (106.19 lbf.in).
(i)
Safety the nuts (67) with corrosion-resistant steel lockwire 0.8 mm (0.032 in) dia.
(j)
Install the washers (63) and the nuts (62).
(k)
TORQUE the nuts (62) to 1.2 m.daN (106.19 lbf.in).
(l)
Safety the nuts (62) with the cotter pins (59) and cotter pins (72).
(10)
Install the pushrod. (Ref. Fig. 401/TASK 55-31-11-991-005)
(a)
Put the pushrod (81) in position.
(b)
Install the bolts (82), the washers (83) and (86) and the nuts
(84) and (87).
(c)
Safety the nuts (84) and (87) with the cotter pins (85).
(11)
Remove the hoisting equipment.
(a)
Remove the sling from the vertical stabilizer. WARNING : OBEY THE MANUFACTURER'S INSTRUCTIONS WHEN YOU USE THE
_______
SPECIAL MATERIAL.
THIS MATERIAL IS DANGEROUS.
(b)
Remove the hoist fittings.
