 CAUTION: REMOVE THE PROTECTION COVERS FROM THE OPENINGS AS NECESSARY.
_______ IF YOU DO NOT REMOVE THE PROTECTION COVERS, DAMAGE TO THE APU CAN OCCUR.
 CAUTION: REPLACE THE FOUR PACKINGS WITH RETAINERS ONE AT A TIME TO
_______ PREVENT ANY CHANGE IN THE MAIN DRIVESHAFT ASSEMBLY POSITION.
 (1)  
Do these steps to replace the four packings with retainers (2) on the main driveshaft assembly:

 (a)  
Do these steps for the first bolt (1) on the main driveshaft assembly: 1) Remove the bolt (1) and packing with retainer (2).

 a) Discard the packing with retainer (2). 2) Lubricate the new packing with retainer (2) with a light
 coat of oil. 3) Install the packing with retainer (2) on the bolt (1). 4) Install the bolt (1) on the main driveshaft assembly.
 a)  Tighten the bolt (1) to 8-14 inch-pounds (0.9-1.6 newton-meters).

 (b)  Do these steps again for the second bolt (1) that is across from the first bolt (1).
 NOTE: The location of the second bolt (1) is not adjacent to

 the first bolt (1).

 (c)  
Do these steps again for the third bolt (1).

 (d)  
Do these steps again for the fourth bolt (1).

 (e)  
Install the lockwire on the four bolts (1).

 (2)  
Do these steps to install the oil seal (4):

 (a)  
Lubricate the main driveshaft, gearbox housing and new oil seal (4) with oil.

 (b)  
Put the oil seal (4) in its position in the gearbox housing.

 (c)  
Install the retaining ring (5).

 (d)  
Clean the surfaces of the starter motor adapter (6), ground adapter (17) and accessory gearbox adapter with alcohol and a cloth.

 (e)  
Make sure the location of the alignment pin hole on the starter motor adapter (6) is at the top (12 o'clock) position.

 (f)  
Put the starter motor adapter (6) on the accessory gearbox (3) and then install the ground adapter (17) on the accessory gearbox adapter with the two nuts (16).

 NOTE: The alignment pin hole on the starter motor adapter (6)
____ must be at the top (12 o'clock) position.
 (g)  
Install the two washers (15) and two nuts (14) that attach the starter motor adapter (6) and ground adapter (17) to the accessory gearbox (3).

 (h)  
Install the washer (7) and nut (8) on the starter motor adapter (6) and accessory gearbox (3).

 (i)  
Install the bracket (11) on the starter motor adapter (6) and accessory gearbox (3) with the nut (9).

 (j)  
Install the clamp (12) with the tube to the bracket (11) with the bolt (13) and nut (10).

 (k)  
Tighten the four nuts (8), (9), (14) to 150-170 inch-pounds (17.0-19.2 newton-meters).

 (l)  
Tighten the two nuts (16) to 36-40 inch-pounds (4.1-4.5 newton-meters).

 (m)  
Tighten the nut (10) to 36-40 inch-pounds (4.1-4.5 newton-meters).

 (n)  
Apply the silicone rubber sealant to the non-anodized areas of the ground adapter (17), starter motor adapter (6) and accessory gearbox adapter.

 NOTE: The non-anodized areas include the areas around the two
____ nuts (16), two nuts (14) and two washers (16) . Other non-anodized areas are the adjacent mounting areas between the ground adapter (17) and starter motor adapter (6) and between the ground adapter (17) and accessory gearbox adapter.
