Procedure

 CAUTION: REMOVE THE PROTECTION COVERS FROM THE OPENINGS AS NECESSARY.
_______ IF YOU DO NOT REMOVE THE PROTECTION COVERS, DAMAGE TO THE APU CAN OCCUR.
 (1)  
Do these steps to install the fuel metering adapter (1):

 (a)  
Lubricate the new packing (9) with a light coat of fuel.

 (b)  
Install the packing (9) on the nipple (8).

 (c)  
Install the nipple (8) on the fuel metering adapter (1).

 1)  Tighten the nipple (8) to 110-120 inch-pounds (12.4-13.6 newton-meters).

 (d)  
Lubricate the new packing (2) with a light coat of fuel.

 (e)  
Install the nut (4) and a new ring (3) on the elbow (6).

 (f)  
Install the packing (2) and then the elbow (6) (with the nut (4) and ring (3)) on the fuel metering adapter (1).

 (g)  
Tighten the nut (4) with your fingers.

 (h)  
Lubricate the two new packings (12) with a light coat of fuel.

 (i)  
Install the two packings (12) on the fuel metering adapter (1).

 (j)  
Put the fuel metering adapter (1) on the fuel pump.

 (k)  
Install the fuel metering adapter (1) on the fuel pump with the five washers (11) and five nuts (10). 1) Tighten the five nuts (10) to 75-85 inch-pounds (8.5-9.6

 newton-meters).

 (l)  
Connect the fuel return tube (7) to the nipple (8).

 (m)  
While you hold the nipple (8) in position, tighten the coupling nut on the fuel return tube (7) to 270-300 inch-pounds (30.5-33.9 newton-meters).

 NOTE: Use an open-end wrench on the nipple (8) to hold the
____ nipple in position while you tighten the coupling nut on the fuel return tube (7).

 (n)  
Connect the fuel supply tube (5) to the elbow (6).

 (o)  
While you hold the fuel supply tube (5) and elbow (6) in position, tighten the coupling nut on the fuel supply tube to 270-300 inch-pounds (30.5-33.9 newton-meters).

 (p)  
While you hold the fuel supply tube (5) and elbow (6) in position, tighten the nut (4) to 70-80 inch-pounds (7.9-9.0 newton-meters).

 NOTE: Use an open-end wrench on the coupling nut of the fuel
____ supply tube (5) or the flat side of the elbow (6) to hold the fuel supply tube and elbow in position while you tighten the nut (4).

 FUEL PUMP - REMOVAL/INSTALLATION

 1.  General_______
 A.  This procedure contains the tasks to remove and install the APU fuel pump.
 B.  The APU fuel pump is installed on the aft side of the accessory gearbox. It is necessary to remove the fuel metering unit (FMU) and the fuel metering adapter to remove the fuel pump.
 C.  You can get access to the APU fuel pump through the APU access doors.
