Open the APU access doors:

 (a)  
Open the latches on the APU access doors.

 (b)  
Open the APU access doors.

 (c)  
Engage the support rods for the APU access doors.

Procedure

 (1)  
Prepare the anodize solution:

 (a)  
Fill the container half full with the high purity water.

 (b)  
Add 4 ounces (113.4 grams) of the iridite power for each gallon

 (3.8 liter) of the water.
 (c)  Add 0.007 ounces (2 ml) of the wetting agent for each gallon
 (3.8 liter) of the water.
 (d)  
Mix the water, the iridite powder, and the wetting agent.

 (e)  
Fully fill the container with the high purity water.

 NOTE: This solution must be discarded after 14 days.

 (2)  
Prepare the area to be repaired:

 (a)  
Remove all the loose paint with a plastic spatula.

 (b)  
Lightly rub the damaged area and the area 1 to 2 inches adjacent to the damaged area with the 240 grit cloth.

 WARNING: DO NOT GET SOLVENTS IN YOUR MOUTH, OR YOUR EYES, OR ON
_______ YOUR SKIN. DO NOT BREATHE THE FUMES FROM SOLVENTS. SOLVENTS ARE HAZARDOUS MATERIALS. SOLVENTS MAY BE FLAMMABLE OR HARMFUL TO THE ENVIRONMENT. REFER TO PRODUCT MATERIAL SAFETY DATA SHEETS (MSDS) AND LOCAL REQUIREMENTS FOR PROPER HANDLING PROCEDURES.
 (c)  Clean the area with a lintfree cloth or the crocus abrasive cloth made wet with solvent, Series 88 (AMM 20-30-88).

 (d)  
Apply the anodize solution with a swab or a brush for 3-4 minutes.

 NOTE:____The surface must stay wet during the full time. If the anodize solution does not make the surface wet, remove with a clean cloth and clean the area again.

 (e)  
Let the solution dry or rub the solution off with a clean cloth made wet with water.

 (f)  
Visually examine the area to make sure it all has the solution on it.

 (g)  
Rub the solution on the repair area with a lintfree cloth to make it the same color.

 CAUTION: MAKE SURE THE FINISH COMPONENTS DO NOT HAVE WATER IN THEM.
_______ CORROSION OF THE METAL SURFACE CAN OCCUR.
 (3)  Prepare the intumescent paint:
 NOTE:____The paint must be discarded after 60 minutes. It is only necessary to prepare a sufficient quantity for you to apply to the repair area.
 (a)  
Mix 100 parts of the epoxy base with 3.4 parts of the catalyst by weight.

 (b)  
Add 10 percent methylene chloride by weight to make the mixture sufficiently thin to be applied with a spray.

 (4)  
Apply the intumescent paint:

 (a)  
Apply one layer of the intumescent paint on the repair area with a spray gun.

 NOTE: You can use a brush to apply the paint if a spray
____
 gun is not available.

 (b)  
Let the paint dry at a temperature of 70-75°F (21-24°C) for 1 hour.

 (c)  
Prepare and apply a second layer of the intumescent paint.

 (d)  
Let the second layer dry at a temperature of 70-75°F (21-24°C) for 1 hour.

 (e)  
Prepare and apply a third layer of the intumescent paint.

 (f)  
Let the third layer dry at a temperature of 70-75°F (21-24°C) for 1 hour.

 (5)  
Visually examine the painted surface:

 (a)  
Make sure the paint is hard and glossy.
