The instructors have to do their best to obtain the most realistic environment in terms of
clearance delivery and radio communications. They are encouraged to stay within the
session time frame, therefore they may use for several approaches 2 different runway
directions with crosswind conditions in terms of time saving and providing the advantage of
FMGS approach preparation review.

a. Phase 1 : Ground course (end)
2. Welcome - Introduction
It consists in :
· presenting Airbus Training and the aircraft (video tapes)
· introducing the instruction system and the instructors. The instruction system is
presented and, in particular, trainees are to be informed of the evaluation method
and of the necessity for some "homework" with the FCOM, the FCTM and Note
Book computer provided by Trainee’s Library if applicable.
· presenting the documentation (1)
· introducing the cockpit and new systems
· presenting the philosophy of the new aircraft systems.
· presenting the Golden Rules
(1) Trainees must carry along their FCOM Vol 3, QRH, FCTM, Jeppesen charts and
AIP extracts TLS or appropriate for each FMGS, FBS and FFS session.
3. Systems study (VACBI + FMGS Trainer)
It consists in providing trainees with all the technical information and system
knowledge to enable the application of procedures.
The training sessions in Phase 1 are to be developed to support system study and
cockpit preparation training.
b. Phase 2 : Normal operations
Having studied each system of the aircraft separately during the Phase 1, the trainee is
invited to study integration of these systems and subsequent procedures, as well as
aircraft handling in Normal situations.
Normal situations here must be understood as flying the aircraft without any internal
failure. The objectives are :
· to use the complete normal procedures with each crew member performing his own
task in crew co-ordination
· to make each trainee capable of performing his tasks in normal flight conditions (no
failure)
· to demonstrate aircraft characteristics in normal operations with the maximum degree
or realism, particularly those requiring visual outside world reference.
The sessions are scheduled in FBS to study the procedures and in FFS to apply the
procedures and study the handling in normal operations. Adverse weather operation
and rejected take-off will be addressed in this part of the course supported by a video
tape concerning Airbus policy for RTO’s.

c. Phase 3 : Abnormal/emergency operations.
Knowing now how to handle the aircraft in normal situations, the trainees are invited to
study the aircraft in abnormal/emergency operations experiencing several failure cases.
The objectives are :
· to use the abnormal/emergency procedures with crew member performing his own
tasks in Crew Co-ordination, Communication, Task sharing and Workload
Management.
· to present failure situations to the trainees first independently of the usual
environmental constraints in the FBS then with constraints such as meteo, ATC
problems with the maximum degree of realism in the FFS environment.
Sessions are scheduled in FBS to study and to perform abnormal and emergency
procedures and in FFS to apply the procedures and practice the handling in abnormal
and emergency configurations. This period allows the aircraft to be demonstrated and
each trainee to be made capable of performing his tasks in flight under all
circumstances and developing his flying skills. Aircraft operations must therefore be fully
assimilated by the end of this phase.
d. Phase 4 : Evaluation
The evaluation FFS is performed as a proficiency check in terms of satisfaction of the
