a. Briefing principles

Briefing of sessions starting at 6.00 a. m. takes place the day before, unless otherwise
appointed by instructor with agreement of the trainees.
Nevertheless, the above mentioned time frame for briefings are at least minimum
required. It is left to the instructor’s responsibility to extend briefing or debriefing duration
in order to achieve the required proficiency level of the trainees.
The instructors are advised to use all available tools that can support the learning
process significantly i. e. FMGS trainer, ACRM briefings and others.
b. Session preparation
Students prepare their sessions using the FCOM and FCTM. They should review the
entire session syllabus item by item. During sessions, the only documents used will be
FCTM, FCOM, approaches charts and QRH.
NOTE : - All phases are to be trained to proficiency.
- The assessment is to be done by the instructor performing the last session of
a phase.
· The FBS preparation (parameters insertion, initialization, cockpit status) will be
accomplished by the instructor at the beginning of the session whilst the trainees
install themselves in the cockpit.
· The FFS preparation, parameters initialization (wind, temperature, weight, runway,
number, etc.) will be accomplished at the beginning of each session and the simulator
will be positioned at the desired initial location and the "RELEASE" button pressed
"IN" before the trainees start their cockpit preparation.
If during the session a different TOW must be used, the corresponding ZFW must be
set.

c. Communications
In the simulator, instructors and trainees must endeavour to make the flight as realistic
as possible, so it is essential that boom headsets are being used by trainees and
instructor. The use of "INT" for routine communications, including check-lists reading,
significantly reduces distraction and improves the flow of information.
From the first simulator session, use the interphone and radio transmission functions
simulating ATC, requiring frequencies and COM control box selections. This is a key
aspect of cockpit workload which must be mastered. Clearance will be provided
according to syllabus requirements.
Airport charts will be used (extracted from appropriate documentation).
Take-off briefing, emergency briefing and approach briefing will be performed at least
once per session in terms of standard briefing. All other briefings will mention the
exceptions only.
d. Performance
The take-off data will be checked before briefing using data given in the corresponding
syllabus (calculated and extracted from the Regulatory Take-off and Landing Weight
(RTOLW) tables.
Maximum take-off weights will be demonstrated and rejected take-off technique will be
trained. In the event RTOLWs are not available in the FCTM Vol 1 - "Performance"
chapter, it is recommended to use the Quick Reference Tables.

04 - CRITERIA OF PROFICIENCY
A. VACBI
a. Evaluation during VACBI Phase :
On completion of this phase, a written multiple choice examination will be completed.
The minimum level required, to be declared proficient, is determined by the Airline, but
is never below 80%.
b. Unsatisfactory Examination :
Corrective action using the VACBI will be determined by the instructor in coordination
