 F. Prepare for Installation (Fig. 401)
 S 224-013
 (1)  
Do a check on the side brace pins (10) and (15), and the structural attachment points for permitted wear limits (AMM 32-13-03/601).

Assemble the upper and lower pin assemblies of the side brace (3).

 (a)  
Clean the lubrication inserts (11 and 16), and side brace pins (10) and (15) with solvent.

 (b)  
Apply a large layer of grease on the items that follow: 1) the o-rings (12 and 17) 2) the outer surface of the lube inserts 3) the inner surface of the bolts.

 (c)  
Install the o-rings (12) on the lubrication insert (11).

 (d)  
Install the o-rings (17) on the lubrication insert (16).

 (e)  
Install the lubrication insert (11) in the side brace pin (10) to make the lower pin assembly of the side brace.

 (f)  
Install the lube insert (16) in side brace pin (15) to make the upper pin assembly of the side brace.

Install the Side Brace (Fig. 401)

 S 434-015
 (1)  
If it was removed, install the spherical bearing (7).

 (a)  
If it is necessary, clean the items that follow with solvent: 1) the outer part of the bearing 2) the washers (5) and (6) 3) the nut (4) 4) the shock strut lug.

 (b)  
Install the bearing in the shock strut lug from the forward side.

 (c)  
Apply sealant to the face and the edge of the washer (6) and all the flange cavities of the bearing.

 (d)  
Install the washer (6), the key washer (5) and the nut (4).

 (e)  
Use the torque adapter to tighten the nut from 900 to 1200 pound-inches (101 to 136 NM).

 (f) (g)  Bend the tang of the washer (5) in the slot in the nut.Apply a fillet seal around the perimeter of the bearing on the forward side of the shock strut lug.

 (2)  Put the side brace (3) in its position (hold the side brace as it is necessary).

 (3)  Align the upper attach lugs with the trunnion attach holes.

 (4)  Lubricate, with grease, all the bolts, the washer surfaces, the nuts and the threads of the bolts immediately before installation.

 (5)  Install the upper pin assembly (15) of the side brace (3). (a) Install the pin assembly (15) from the forward side of the gear. (b) Install the side brace pin washer (14) and the nut (13). 1) Tighten the nut 600 to 900 pound-inches (68 to 101 NM). 2) If it is necessary, align the crosshole with the nearest castellation of the nut.
 (c)  Install the lockbolt (20), the washer (19) and the self-locking nut (18) and tighten the nut.

 (6)  Align the lower attach lugs of the side brace (3) with the spherical bearing (7) in the outer cylinder of the shock strut.
 S 434-020
 (7)  Install the lower pin assembly (10) of the side brace (3). (a) Install the pin assembly (10) from the forward side of the gear. (b) Install the side brace pin washer (9) and the nut (8). 1) Tighten the nut 600 to 900 pound-inches (68 to 101NM). 2) If it is necessary, align the crosshole with the nearest castellation of the nut.
