4) Tighten the nuts [25] to 12-15 pound-inches (53-66 newton meters) millimeters).
(f) Install the center crank [30] to the torque tube [1]:
1) Apply corrosion preventive compound, C00308 to the bolts [10].
2) Install the bolts [10], washers [11], and nuts [12] to attach the center crank [30] to the
torque tube [1].
3) Tighten the nuts [12] to 25-35 pound-inches (111-155 newton meters) newton-meters).
4) Apply a fillet seal between the center crank [30] and the torque tube [1] with sealant,
A00247. To apply fillet seal, do this task: Fillet Seal Application,
TASK 51-31-00-390-804.
(g) Install the upper crank [35] to the torque tube [1]:
1) Apply corrosion preventive compound, C00308 to the bolts [6].
2) Install the bolts [6], washers [7], and nuts [8] to attach the upper crank [35] to the torque
tube [1].
3) Tighten the nuts [8] to 25-35 pound-inches (111-155 newton meters).
4) Apply a fillet seal between the upper crank [35] and the torque tube [1] with sealant,
A00247. To apply fillet seal, do this task: Fillet Seal Application,
TASK 51-31-00-390-804.

(2) Make sure the torque tube [1] turns freely and that there is no play in the horizontal and vertical
directions.
(a) If the torque tube [1] does not turn freely, do a check of the lower bearing housing [26] and
upper bearing housing [4] installation.

(3) Install the bolt [36], washer [37] (under the bolt), washer [38] (under the nut), and nut [39] to
connect the vernier control rod [5] to the upper crank [35].

(4) Connect the vernier control rod [9] to the center crank [30]:
(a) Install the washer [32] and bolt [31].
1) Tighten the outer bolt of the bolt [31] to 70-85 pound-inches (7.9-9.6 newton-meters).
CAUTION: DO NOT TRY TO TIGHTEN THE OUTER BOLT OF THE BOLT [31] AGAIN AFTER
YOU TIGHTEN THE NUT [34], YOU CAN CAUSE DAMAGE TO EQUIPMENT.
(b) Install the washer [33] and nut [34].

(6) Install the bolt [18], washer [19], and nut [20] to connect the aft quadrant rod [21] to the lower
crank [22].

(7) Connect the control rod [17] to the lower crank [22]:
(a) Install the bolt assembly [13], washer [14], and nut [15].
1) Tighten the nut [15] to 45-60 pound-inches (5.1-6.8 newton-meters).
CAUTION: DO NOT TRY TO TIGHTEN THE NUT [15] AGAIN AFTER YOU TIGHTEN THE NUT
[16], YOU CAN CAUSE DAMAGE TO EQUIPMENT.
(b) Install the nut [16].
1) Tighten the nut [16] to 12-15 pound-inches (1.3-1.7 newton-meters).

(8) Apply grease, D00015 to the upper bearing housing [4] and lower bearing housing [26].
(a) Fill the upper bearing housing [4] and lower bearing housing [26] with grease, D00015 until
the grease is level with the surrounding structure.

(9) Do this task: Put the Rudder Systems A, B, and Standby Back to the Condition Before the
Pressure Removal, TASK 27-21-00-840-802.

and centering unit.
