(1) If you install the captain’s rudder forward quadrant [39], then do these steps (Figure 402):
(a) Install the lower bearing housing [67] to the jackshaft support channel [70] if it is necessary:
1) Put the lower bearing housing [67] on the jackshaft support channel [70].

2) Install the bolts [55], washers [56], and nuts [57].
3) Install the bolt [64], washer [65], and nut [66].
(b) Put the rudder forward quadrant [39] in the upper bearing housing and the quadrant arm
thru the floor beam penetration.
(c) Attach the jackshaft support channel [70] to the airplane structure:
1) Install the screws [58], washers [59], and nuts [60].
2) Install the screw [61], washer [62], and nut [63].
(d) Install the screws [68] and washers [69] to connect the rudder pedal steering arm [24] to the
rudder forward quadrant [39].
1) Install the lockwire, G01912.
(e) Install the screws [52], washers [53], and nuts [5] to attach the cable guard [51] to the
jackshaft support channel [70].

(2) If you install the first officer’s rudder forward quadrant [3], then do these steps:
(a) Install the lower bearing housing [67] to the jackshaft support channel [76] if it is necessary:
1) Put the lower bearing housing [67] on the jackshaft support channel [76].
2) Install the bolts [55], washers [56], and nuts [57].
3) Install the bolt [64], washer [65], and nut [66].
(b) Put the rudder forward quadrant [39] in the upper bearing housing and quadrant arm thru
the floor beam penetration.
(c) Attach the jackshaft support channel [76] to the airplane structure:
1) Install the screws [58], washers [59], and nuts [60].
2) Install the screw [61], washer [62], and nut [63].
(d) Attach the support [86] to the jackshaft support channel [76]:
1) Install the bolts [83], washers [84], and nuts [85].
(e) Connect the rudder pedal position sensor quadrant [23] to the rudder forward quadrant
[39].
1) Install screws [77] and washers [78].
2) Install the lockwire, G01912.
(f) Install the screws [52], washers [53], and nuts [54] to attach the cable guard [51] to the
jackshaft support channel [76].

(3) Install rig pin R-3 from the rig pin kit, SPL-1585 in the forward rig pin hole of the captain’s rudder
forward quadrant [39].

(4) Install rig pin R-4 from the rig pin kit, SPL-1585 in the forward rig pin hole of the first officer’s
rudder forward quadrant [39].

(5) Make sure the clearance between the cable guard block [26] and the rudder forward quadrant
[39] is 0.030 to 0.050 inch (0.762 to 1.270 millimeters).
(a) If it is necessary, add or remove the shims [27]:
1) Remove the nuts [29], washers [28], and bolts [25] from the cable guard block [26].

2) Add or remove the shims [27] laminations.
3) Install the bolts [25], washers [28], and nuts [29] to the cable guard block [26].

(6) Temporarily install the bolt [45] to connect the bus rod [50] to the rudder forward quadrant [39].
(a) If it is necessary, adjust the bus rod [50] until rig pins R-3 and R-4 move freely.
