F. Rudder Forward Quadrant Removal

SUBTASK 27-21-51-010-004
WARNING: YOU MUST LOOSEN AND DISCONNECT THE RUDDER CABLES FROM THE RUDDER
FORWARD QUADRANTS BEFORE YOU DISCONNECT THE BUS ROD. RELIEVE
TENSION UNIFORMLY IN THE TWO RUDDER CABLES. IF YOU DO NOT LOOSEN THE
RUDDER CABLES EQUALLY, IT CAN CAUSE INJURY TO PERSONNEL OR DAMAGE
TO EQUIPMENT.
(1) Loosen the turnbuckles [91] for the rudder cable RB [21] and rudder cable RA [22] (Figure 403).

(2) Disconnect the applicable rudder cable from the rudder forward quadrant [39] that you will
remove (Figure 402):
(a) Remove the bolt [30] and washer [31] from the cable retainer [32].
(b) Remove the cable RB [21] or cable RA [22] from the rudder forward quadrant [39].

(3) Remove the pins [44], nuts [43], washers [42], and bolts [41] to disconnect the rudder pedal
tension rods [40] from the rudder forward quadrant [39]. Discard the pins [44].

(4) Remove the pin [49], nut [48], washer [47], spacers [46], and bolt [45] to disconnect the bus rod
[50] from the rudder forward quadrant [39]. Discard the pin [49].

(5) Remove the nuts [90], washers [89], and bolts [88] to remove the cover assembly [87] from the
floor beam structure.

(6) Remove the nuts [73], washers [72], and bolts [71] to remove the adjustment shaft support
bracket [74] from the structure.

(7) Pull the adjustment shaft [75] and the adjustment shaft support bracket [74] forward to disengage
the adjustment shaft [75] from the rudder forward quadrant [39].

(8) Remove the nuts [54], washers [53], and screws [52] to remove the cable guard [51].

(9) If you remove the captain’s rudder forward quadrant [39], then do these steps:
(a) Remove the lockwire from the rudder pedal steering arm [24].
(b) Remove the screws [68] and washers [69] to disconnect the rudder pedal steering arm [24]
from the rudder forward quadrant [39].
(c) Move the rudder pedal steering arm [24] out of the way.
(d) Hold the rudder forward quadrant [39] and remove the jackshaft support channel [70]:
NOTE: The rudder forward quadrant is free to fall from the upper bearing housing after
you remove the screws.
1) Remove the nuts [60], washers [59], and screws [58].
2) Remove the nut [63], washer [62], and screw [61].
(e) Remove the rudder forward quadrant [39] from the airplane:
1) Move the rudder forward quadrant [39] in an aft and outboard direction to clear the floor
beam penetration, and remove it from the airplane.
(f) Do these steps to remove the lower bearing housing [67] from the jackshaft support
channel [74]:
1) Remove the nuts [57], washers [56], and bolts [55].
2) Remove the nut [66], washer [65], and bolt [64].

(10) If you remove the first officer’s rudder forward quadrant [39], then do these steps:
(a) Remove the lockwire from the rudder pedal position sensor quadrant [23].
(b) Remove the screws [77] and washers [78] to disconnect the rudder pedal position sensor
quadrant [23] from the rudder forward quadrant [39].
(c) Hold the rudder forward quadrant [39] and remove the jackshaft support channel [76]:
NOTE: The rudder forward quadrant is free to fall from the upper bearing housing after
you remove the bolts and screws.
1) Remove the nuts [60], washers [59], and screws [58].
2) Remove the nuts [85], washers [84], and bolts [83.

3) Remove the support [86].
4) Remove the nut [63], washer [62], and screw [61].
(d) Remove the rudder forward quadrant [39] from the airplane:
1) Move the rudder forward quadrant [39] in an aft and outboard direction to clear the floor
beam penetration, and remove it from the airplane.
(e) Do these steps to remove the lower bearing housing [67] from the jackshaft support
channel [39]:
1) Remove the nuts [57], washers [56], and bolts [55].
2) Remove the nut [66], washer [65], and bolt [64].
