(a) If it is necessary, adjust the length of the rudder pedal tension rods.

(9) If you install the captain’s rudder forward quadrant, then do these steps:
(a) Move the captain’s rudder forward quadrant [39] until it touches the quadrant stop [35].
(b) Make sure that you can install rig pin R-3 easily in the aft rig pin hole.
1) If it is necessary, add or remove the shims [34]:
a) Remove the nuts [38], washers [37], bolts [36], and fillers [33] from the quadrant
stops [35].
b) Add or remove the shims [34] laminations.
c) Install the fillers [33], bolts [36], washers [37], and nuts [38] to the quadrant stops
[35].
(c) Remove rig pin R-3.

(10) If you install the first officer’s rudder forward quadrant, then do these steps:
(a) Move the first officer’s rudder forward quadrant [39] until it touches the quadrant stop [35].
(b) Make sure that you can install rig pin R-4 easily in the aft rig pin hole.
1) If it is necessary, add or remove the shims [34]:
a) Remove the nuts [38], washers [37], bolts [36], and fillers [33] from the quadrant
stops [35].
b) Add or remove the shims [34] laminations.
c) Install the fillers [33], bolts [36], washers [37], and nuts [38] to the quadrant stops
[35].
(c) Remove rig pin R-4.

(11) Install rig pin R-3 in the forward rig pin hole of the captain’s rudder forward quadrant.

(12) Install rig pin R-4 in the forward rig pin hole of the first officer’s rudder forward quadrant.

(13) Connect the adjustment shaft [75] to the rudder forward quadrant [39]:
(a) Put the adjustment shaft [75] into the rudder forward quadrant’s universal joint [39].
NOTE: The slot in the adjustment shaft must engage with the pin in the hole.

(16) Do these steps to put the rudder pedals to the neutral position:
(a) Turn the adjustment crank clockwise for the rudder pedals to the full forward position.
(b) Turn the adjustment crank back four turns from the full forward position, to get to the
neutral position.

(18) Connect the bus rod [50] to the rudder forward quadrant [39]:
(a) Remove the bolt [45] from the bus rod [50].
(b) Turn the bus rod two full turns to make it shorter.
(c) Make sure you can see the threads of the two bus rod ends through the holes in the bus
rod.
(d) Install the bolt [45], spacers [46], washer [47], nut [48], and pin [49] to connect the bus rod
[50] to the rudder forward quadrant [39].

(19) Install the bolt [30], washer [31], and cable retainer [32] to connect the applicable rudder cable to
the rudder forward quadrant [39].

(20) Tighten the turnbuckle [91] until cable RA or RB are not loose. (Figure 403)
G. Put the Airplane Back to Its Usual Condition

(1) For the first officer’s rudder forward quadrant, install the rudder pedal position sensor. To install
it, do this task: Rudder Pedal Position Sensor Installation, TASK 31-31-42-400-801.

(2) Remove the rig pins R-5 from the rudder feel and centering unit (Figure 401).

(3) Remove the rig pins R-3 and R-4.

(4) Adjust the rudder control cables RA and RB. To adjust them, do this task: Rudder Control
Cables RA and RB Adjustment, TASK 27-21-00-820-808-001 or Rudder Control Cables RA

(5) Do this task: Put the Rudder Systems A, B, and Standby Back to the Condition Before the
