H. Input Rods of the Elevator Neutral Shift Mechanism and Output Rod of the Elevator Feel and
Centering Unit

(1) Measure the distance "Z" between the centerline of the left neutral shift crank bolt [82] and the
aft side of the vertical bulkhead.
(a) Make sure the distance is 1.25 +/- 0.03 inches (31.8 +/- 0.8 mm).

(2) If the distance is not 1.25 +/- 0.03 inches (31.8 +/- 0.8 millimeters), adjust the neutral shift input
rods [84] of the elevator neutral shift mechanism [87] (Figure 507):
(a) Remove the nut [79], washer [78], washer [77], and bolt [76] to disconnect the output rod of
the elevator feel and centering unit [71] from the input crank [75].
(b) Loosen the checknuts on the neutral shift input rods [84].
(c) Remove the nuts [85], washers [86], washers [83], washers [81], and bolts [82] to
disconnect the neutral shift input rods [84] from the neutral shift mechanism crank [87].
(d) Adjust the input rods [84] until you get a "Z" dimension of 1.25 +/- 0.03 inches (31.8 +/- 0.8
mm) at the left input rod [84].
(e) Install the bolts [82], washers [81], washers [83], washers [86], and nuts [85] to connect the
stabilizer position sensor input rods [80] and neutral shift input rods [84] to the neutral shift
mechanism crank [87].
1) Install the lockwire, G01912.

(3) Adjust the output rod of the elevator feel and centering unit (Figure 507):

(a) If it is not disconnected, remove the nut [79], washer [78], washer [77], and bolt [76] to
disconnect the output rod [74] of the elevator feel and centering unit from the input crank
[75].
(b) Measure the distance between the bolt hole in the output rod [74] and the bolt hole in the
input crank [75]:
(c) If the distance is greater than 0.06 inch (1.5 millimeters), then do these steps:
1) Turn the output rod end half turn relative to the sleeve [73], and the sleeve [73] and the
output rod [74] end together half turn.
2) Make sure the distance of the two bolt holes is less than 0.06 inch (1.5 mm).
3) Keep the number of threads that you can see in the two parts approximately the same.
(d) If the distance is less than 0.06 inch (1.5 mm), then do these steps:
1) Turn the sleeve [73] until you can install the bolt [76] easily.
NOTE: You must always turn the output rod end and sleeve [73] in the same direction.
2) Keep the number of threads that you can see in the two parts are approximately same.
CAUTION: DO NOT TRY TO TIGHTEN THE OUTER BOLT OF THE BOLT [76] AGAIN
AFTER YOU TIGHTEN THE NUT [79]. YOU CAN CAUSE DAMAGE TO THE
EQUIPMENT.
3) Install the bolt [76], washer [77], washer [78], and nut [79] to connect the output rod [74]
to the input crank [75].
a) Tighten the outer bolt of the bolt [76] to 75 - 85 pound-inches (8.5 - 9.6 newtonmeters).
b) Tighten the nut [79] to 15 - 20 pound-inches (1.7 - 2.3 newton-meters).

(4) If it is necessary, do this task: Elevator Neutral Shift Sensor Adjustment,
TASK 22-11-14-820-801.
