(g) Install the fixture, SPL-1686 at the second elevator tab hinge (from inboard) (Figure 512).

(h) Install the fixture, SPL-1686 at the third elevator tab hinge (from inboard) (Figure 512).

(i) Make sure the distance between the right elevator tab and the fixture, SPL-1686 (dimension
X) is in 0.23 - 0.38 inch (5.8 - 9.7 mm) (Figure 512).
(j) Move the left elevator by hand to align it with the index mark in +/- 0.06 inch (+/- 1.5
millimeter).

(k) Install the fixture, SPL-1686 at the second elevator tab hinge (from inboard) (Figure 512).

(l) Install the fixture, SPL-1686 at the third elevator tab hinge (from inboard) (Figure 512).

(m) Make sure the distance between the left elevator tab and the fixture, SPL-1686 is in 0.23 -
0.38 inch (5.8 - 9.7 mm) (Figure 512).
(n) Remove the fixture, SPL-1686.
WARNING: MAKE SURE THAT PERSONS AND EQUIPMENT ARE CLEAR OF ALL CONTROL
SURFACES BEFORE YOU SUPPLY HYDRAULIC POWER. AILERONS, RUDDERS,
ELEVATORS, FLAPS, SPOILERS, SLATS, AND THRUST REVERSERS CAN MOVE
QUICKLY WHEN YOU SUPPLY HYDRAULIC POWER. THIS CAN CAUSE INJURY TO
PERSONS AND DAMAGE TO EQUIPMENT.
(o) Pressurize elevator hydraulic systems A and B. To pressurize them, do this task: Elevator
Hydraulic System A and B - Pressurization, TASK 27-31-00-800-801.
(p) Lightly move the control column forward and aft a small amount to make sure that the
system is in the neutral position.
(q) Verify that the right elevator is aligned with the index mark in +/- 0.06 inch (+/- 1.5 mm).
(r) Use a 6 inch (150 millimeter) scale to measure from the bottom edge of the right elevator to
the bottom edge of the elevator tab (this is referred to as the "neutral tab position").
1) Make a record of this neutral tab position.
(s) Move and hold the control column full aft.
1) Use a scale to make sure the trailing edge of the right elevator is in 13.73 - 14.87 inches
(348.7 - 377.7 mm) of the index mark (Figure 523).
2) Use a 6 inch (150 mm) scale to measure from the bottom edge of the right elevator to
the bottom edge of the elevator tab (this is referred to as the "down tab position").
a) Make a record of this down tab position.
b) Release the control column.
(t) Move and hold the control column full forward.

1) Use a scale to make sure the trailing edge of the right elevator is in 10.18 - 11.08 inches
(258.6 - 281.4 mm) of the index mark.
2) Use a 6 inch (150 mm) scale to measure from the bottom edge of the right elevator to
the bottom edge of the elevator tab (this is referred to as the "up tab position").
a) Make a record of this up tab position.
b) Release the control column.
(u) Add the neutral tab position to the down tab position.
1) Make sure the sum is 1.35 - 1.69 inches (34.3 - 42.9 mm).
(v) Subtract the neutral tab position from up tab position.
1) Make sure the difference is between 1.00 and 1.28 inches (25.4 - 45.7 mm).
(w) Lightly move the control column forward and aft a small amount to make sure that the
system is in the neutral position.
(x) Verify that the right elevator is aligned with the index mark in +/- 0.06 inch (+/- 1.5 mm).
(y) Use a 6 inch (150 millimeter) scale to measure from the bottom edge of the left elevator to
the bottom edge of the elevator tab (this is referred to as the "neutral tab position").
1) Make a record of this neutral tab position.
(z) Move and hold the control column full aft.
