 (1)  
Disconnect the balance mechanism cable (Fig. 402):

 (a)  
Close and latch the cargo compartment door.

 (b)  
Remove the door lining.

 (c)  
If installed, remove the screw, washer and sleeve from the counterbalance guide pin.

 (d)  
Put a nut and washer on the counterbalance guide pin against the adjustment fitting to hold the spring and stop counterbalance operation.

 (e)  
Open the cargo door 1-2 inches.

 (f)  
Install a block under the lower stops to hold the cargo door up.

 WARNING: MAKE SURE THERE IS NO TENSION ON THE BALANCE MECHANISM
_______ CABLE. THE CABLE CAN RETRACT ACCIDENTALLY AND CAUSE INJURY IF IT IS NOT LOOSE BEFORE YOU DISCONNECT IT.
 (g) Make sure the balance mechanism cable is loose.

 (h)  Disconnect the door balance mechanism cable from the floor beam: 1) Measure and record the distance from the forward edge of
 the bracket to the forward edge of the sheave near the
 alignment bolt. 2) Remove the lockwire from the alignment bolt. 3) Remove the alignment bolt and retainer ring. 4) Remove the cotter pin, pin and washer. 5) Safety the cable and sheave to the cargo door.

Disconnect the lanyard assembly from the door or the floor beam (Fig. 402).

Remove the cargo compartment door (Fig. 401).

 (a)  
Remove the bolt (1) to disconnect the snubber from the door.

 (b)  
Remove the hinge bolts to disconnect the door from the hinge arms.

 NOTE: Make sure you keep and identify the shims for the
____ installation procedure.
 (c)  Remove the door and door support bracket through the opening.

Door Support Brace - 2 x 4 inch wood painted red of applicable length to keep the door in the open position

Prepare to install the cargo compartment door.

 (a)  
Make sure the door is the correct size.

 (b)  Apply organic corrosion inhibiting compound to these areas (SRM 51-20-01): 1) on the door hinge areas 2) below the scuff plates 3) on the bottom three to four inches, inside the door.
 (2)  S 434-082-B00If it is necessary, attach the hinge arms to the fuselage structure:
 NOTE:____ The hinge arms may not have been removed from the fuselage during the removal.
 (a) (b)  See that the bearing plates are installed on the frames.Use shims to make the distance between the bearing plates from 0.68 to 0.70 inches.
 (3)  S 434-067-B00Put the door through its opening in the cargo compartment.
 (4)  S 434-083-B00Attach the hinge arms to the fuselage if it is necessary.
