Make sure the door is safe as follows:
(a)
Make sure the door is closed and latched.
WARNING: MAKE SURE THE GIRT BAR IS NOT ENGAGED IN THE FLOOR-MOUNTED
_______ ESCAPE SLIDE BRACKETS. IF THE GIRT BAR IS ENGAGED IN THE BRACKETS, THE ESCAPE SYSTEM CAN DEPLOY WHEN YOU OPEN THE DOOR. THIS CAN CAUSE INJURY TO PERSONS AND DAMAGE TO EQUIPMENT.
(b)
Make sure the girt bar is not engaged in the floor-mounted escape slide brackets.
(c)
Put a maintenance stand outboard of the door.
(d)
Open the door (1).

Get access to the forward entry door assist springs (5) (6) (7) as follows:
(a)
Remove the sidewall lining from the forward edge of the door opening (AMM 25-21-31/401).

Remove the screws (2) that attach the panel reveal (3) to the fuselage.
(c)
Remove the panel reveal (3).

(3) Remove the escape slide assembly (AMM 25-61-35/201).

CAUTION:_______HOLD THE DOOR WITH A BLOCK OF WOOD. YOU CAN CAUSE DAMAGE TO THE DOOR IF YOU DO NOT HOLD IT IN ITS POSITION.
(4) Move the door until there is not a load on the springs.
NOTE: There is no load on the springs when the door is
____ approximately 60 degrees from the open position.

Hold the door with the wood block.
(a)
Put the wood block below the door.
(b)
Move the wood block until it holds the weight of the door.

Removal of the Assist Spring on the Forward Entry Door

(1)
Disconnect the assist springs (5) (6) (7) from the fuselage hinge torque tube as follows:
(a)
Remove the bolt (30), washer (29), spring retainers (24), bushing (28), bushing (25), and nut (23) that attach the upper assist spring (5) to the center assist spring (6).
(b)
Remove the bolt (30), washer (29), spring retainers (24), bushing (28), bushing (25), and nut (23) that attach the lower assist spring (7) to the center assist spring (6).
(c)
Remove the bolt (17), washer (16), washer (15), bushing (14), washer (13), and nut (12) that attach the center assist spring

to the fuselage hinge torque tube through the center sleeve (10).

Disconnect the S-12 stop fitting (35) from the fuselage frame as follows:
(a)
Remove the bolts (34), washers (33), and nuts (32) that attach the S-12 stop fitting (35) to the frame.
(b)
Remove the S-12 stop fitting (35) from the fuselage frame.
