Procedure

 S 944-014-B00
 (1)  
Prepare to install the door (Fig. 401).

 (a)  
Measure the distance between the guide plates at the top hinge.

 (b)  
Change the shims below the top guide plate if it is necessary to get the correct dimension.

 NOTE: This dimension makes sure the latch pin engages
____
 correctly.

 1) Remove the bolts that hold the top guide plate.
 2) Remove the top guide plate.
 3) Change the shims.
 4) Install the top guide plate.
 5) Install the bolts that hold the top guide plate.

Apply the Corrosion Preventive Compound (BMS 3-23) to these areas (SRM 51-20-01):

 (a)  
The hinges

 (b)  
Below the scuff plates

 (c)  
The bottom 3 to 4 inches of the door.

Remove the door safety barrier, if it is installed.

 F.  
Install the forward entry door (Fig. 401).

 (1)  
Move the door to a position adjacent to the door opening.

 (a)  
Use the wood block to hold the door.

 (b)  
Move the door until it is approximately 60 degrees from its open position.

 (c)  
Move the door until the hinge arms align with the holes in the guide plates.

 (2)  Assemble the top hinge.
 CAUTION: DO NOT LET THE DOOR MOVE TOO MUCH WHILE YOU INSTALL
_______ THE GUIDE ARM. YOU CAN CAUSE DAMAGE TO THE HINGES IF YOU LET THE DOOR MOVE TOO MUCH.
 (a)  Install the guide arm (14).
 1)  Lubricate the parts. a) Put a layer of grease on the latch pin (9). b) Put a layer of grease on the tracks of the top and the
 bottom guide plates. 2) Put the end of the guide arm (14) between the guide plates (5).
 3)  Attach the fitting (16) to the guide arm if it is necessary. a) See that the fitting is positioned correctly.
 NOTE: The fitting is not symmetrical.

 b) Use the bolt (1) to attach the fitting to the rod end bearing (15). 4) Connect the fitting (16) to the support (17) with four bolts.
 (b)  Connect the hinge arm (2).
 1)  Assemble the top spigot. a) Put the spring (11), the retainer (12) and the O-ring
 (13) on the top spigot. 2) Put the thrust washer (8) and the radius link (6) on the
 hinge arm. 3) Align the hinge arm with the holes in the guide plate.

 4)  Install the top spigot in the guide plate and the hinge arm. a) Make sure the marks on the top spigot align with the
 marks on the hinge arm. 5) Install the screw that holds the hinge arm to the top spigot.

 (3)  Assemble the bottom hinge.
 CAUTION: DO NOT LET THE DOOR MOVE TOO MUCH WHILE YOU INSTALL
_______ THE SNUBBER. YOU CAN CAUSE DAMAGE TO THE HINGES IF YOU LET THE DOOR MOVE TOO MUCH.
 CAUTION: YOU MUST INSTALL THE SNUBBER IN ITS CORRECT POSITION.
_______ IF YOU INSTALL THE SNUBBER INCORRECTLY, THE FILLER PLUG CAN BEND THE HINGE COVER WHICH CAN THEN CAUSE DAMAGE TO THE DOOR SEAL.
 (a)  Install the snubber.
 1)  Attach the fitting (25) to the snubber if it is necessary. a) Make sure you put the fitting in its correct position.
 NOTE: The fitting is not symmetrical.

 b)  Make sure the lubrication fittings on the snubber are inboard when the door is closed.
 CAUTION: MAKE SURE THE SNUBBER FILLER PLUG IS OUTBOARD
