Procedure

 NOTE: If you only removed the external handle and the center shaft, do
____
 the steps in paragraph F.(2) to install them.

 S 424-018
 (1)  
Install the handle mechanism.

 (a)  
Do these steps to install the pushrod (20) (View A), if you removed it: 1) Measure the distance between the bearing centerlines on the

 pushrod (20). 2) Adjust the distance to 4.66-4.68 inches with the bearing centerlines perpendicular.
 NOTE: You will do the last adjustment of the cocking
____ pushrod in the handle mechanism adjustment.
 3) Remove the crank (22) (View D) and the inner crank (66)
 from the housing.
 4) Attach the pushrod to the inner crank.
 5) Tighten the bolt sufficiently to make sure the rod and the
 bearing inner race will not turn around the bolt.

 (b) (c)  6) Install the cranks (22 and 66) in the housing.Connect the pushrod (20) to the door torque tube.If you did not remove the cam (49) from the housing (21), remove the packing seal (54) from the groove before you install the handle mechanism.
 (d)  Install the housing (21) in the compartment on the door structure.
 (e) (f) (g)  1) Install the attachment bolts (78) loosely.If you removed the cam (49) from the handle mechanism housing (21), remove the packing seal (54) from the groove in the cam.Install the cam (49) on the housing (21) with three bolts (57), washers (56), bearing retainers (55) and seal washers (50).Add or remove the shims (80) (View E) to align the cam (49) with the hole in the outer skin by less than 0.015 inch TIR.
 NOTE:____ This only permits the vertical adjustment of the handle mechanism housing . For the forward and aft positions, the housing will align automatically during installation.
 Use the structural (riveted) and free laminated shims, if it is necessary to fill the clearance. You can use the taper shims, if it is necessary.
 (h) (i) (j)  Find the quantity and the last configuration of the shims (80).Remove the housing (21) from the door to install the shim (80).Install the packing seal (54) in the groove on the cam (49) with the seal lips inboard.
 NOTE:____ The seal lips must be inboard to prevent the cabin pressure leakage.
 (k) (l) (m) (n)  Install the housing (21) in the door.Apply the primer to all surfaces of the delamination shim.Replace shims (80).Install the housing mounting bolts (78) and washers (79).

 (o)  
Apply a layer of grease to all wear surfaces of the dangler (15) and the sliding stud (63) (Detail B or C).

 (p)  
On Door 1, install the assembly of the dangler (15), dangler brace (59), sliding stud (63) and dangler mounting plate (62) on the housing (Detail B).

 (q)  
On Door 5, install the adapter plate (65) on the housing. 1) Install the assembly of the dangler (15), dangler brace

 (59), sliding stud (63) and dangler mounting plate (62) on the adapter plate (Detail C).

 (r)  
Connect the disarm cable to the dangler brace
 (59, Detail B, or C).

 (2)  
Do these steps to install the external handle (9) and the center shaft assembly (45, Detail A):

 (a)  
If you removed the handle (9), do these steps to replace the cam follower bearing (8) (View F): 1) Move the new bearing (8) on the bearing mounting plate. 2) Attach the bearing mounting plate to the handle (9) with

 the laminated shims and screws.

 (b)  
If you disassembled the handle (9), outer shaft (48) and center shaft (45), do these steps to assemble the handle: 1) Install the packing (46) in the groove on ID of the outer
