Install the T-shaped external handle assembly (configuration 2): (Fig. 401)

 (a)  
Apply the grease to the splines and bearing surfaces of the shaft assembly (12).

 (b)  Install the shaft assembly (12) and adapter assembly (16) into the mechanism housing (18).
 NOTE: Make sure that the adapter (16) is bolted on the shaft
____ assembly (12) with the 'V' notches aligned.
 (c)  
Align the master splines of the shaft assembly (12) and the cam assembly (9).

 (d)  
Push the shaft assembly (12) through the cam assembly (9).

 (e)  
Make sure that the spacer plate (11) is properly aligned on the cam assembly (9).

 (f)  
Assemble the nut (10) on the shaft assembly (15) and tighten it.

 (g)  
Assemble the shim (8) and adapter (7) on the cam assembly (9).

 (h)  
Install the screws (6) and tighten.

 (i)  
Install the fairing plate (15) into the recessed fairing housing (17).

 (j)  
Use the screws (19), washers (20), and spacers (21) to adjust the fairing plate (15) until it is flush with the recessed fairing housing (17) surface.

 (k)  
Fill the gap between the edge of the fairing plate (15) and the recessed fairing housing (17) with sealant BMS 5-26, class B.

 (l)  
Assemble the external door handle (14) on the adapter assembly (16).

 (m)  
Insert and tighten the screws (13).

 (n)  
When the crew service door is in the closed position, make sure that the external door handle (14) is within 8-10 degrees parallel to the handle housing center line.

 (o)  
Assemble the internal door handle (5) on the cam assembly (9) in the open position.

 (p)  
Install the pin (4) through the internal door handle (5) boss and cam assembly (9) adapter (7).

 (q)  
Secure the pin (4) with the capscrews (3).

 (r)  
Turn the internal door handle (5) open and closed two or three times to make sure that the cam assembly (9) is free to move.

 F.
Put the airplane back to the normal condition.

Remove the safety barrier 6PRE65b00040 from the doorway and close the crew service door.

 (2)  
Remove the maintenance stand from the crew service door.

 (3)  
Assemble the cover panels (2) onto the crew service door.

 CREW COMPARTMENT OVERHEAD HATCH - DESCRIPTION AND OPERATION

General
_______
 A.  The crew compartment overhead hatch, located in the flight deck area on the upper left side of the fuselage, is an inward-opening, plug-type, hinged door. The door is operable from either inside or outside the airplane. Exit from the overhead hatch to ground is provided by descent devices.
 B.  When the crew compartment overhead hatch is closed and latched and the flight compartment pressurized, the four latch pins on the door engage keeper fittings on the door jamb and transmit the pressure loads on the door to the surrounding fuselage structure. In case of a latch pin failure, the keeper fitting mounted on the door frame will contact the keeper fitting mounted on the door jamb and transmit the fail-safe pressure loads on the door to the surrounding structure.
