(e)  
Loosen the guide arm adjuster fitting locknuts. Make the guide arm length shorter with the adjuster fitting. Make sure the guide arm bolt can move up and down freely in the support fitting and the hinge housing.

 NOTE: Make sure the guide arm has no force.
____
 (f)  Make sure that the bolt head touches the support fitting. Use a torque wrench and tool ST-2580-524 to measure the torque required to move the bolt up in this unloaded condition.

 (g)  Turn the adjuster fitting to lengthen the guide arm. Make sure that the head of the bolt touches the support fitting. Use a torque wrench and tool ST-2850-524 to measure the torque required to move the bolt up. The torque required to move the bolt up is 5 to 20 pound-inches over the torque required to move the bolt with no force on the guide arm.
 NOTE: The guide arm must be adjusted for the longest length to
____ get the maximum service life from the door mechanism.
 (h)  Tighten the larger locknut 650-700 pound-inches and the smaller locknut 350-400 pound-inches.
 NOTE: If the locknuts have holes for lockwire, lockwire
____ the locknuts. If the locknuts do not have holes, no thread locking compound is required on the locknuts.
 (i)  
Install the shrink sleeve if it is necessary, as follows: 1) Remove the bolt and install the shrink sleeve over the guide arm.

 2)  Put the bolt through the guide arm and the guide arm support fitting.

 (j)  
If a new shrink sleeve is installed, shrink the sleeve with the drain holes facing down.

 (k)  
Tighten the bolt which connects the guide arm to the support fitting.

 (l)  
Make sure the guide arm moves freely (Section E-E). 1) Add washers (4 maximum, 1 minimum) to get equal clearance at the "Y" locations.

 2)  Make sure the spacers between the cam plates and the guide arm turn freely when you open and close the door.

 (m)  
Open the door to the cocked position.

 NOTE: The cocked position is the position where the door is
____ open approximately 25 degrees and the internal handle is at the aft position.
 1) Try to extend the external handle. 2) Adjust the pushrod (2, Detail B) until you can extend the external handle, if is it necessary.
 (n)  Fully close and latch the door.
 1)  Make sure the force on the pushrod (2) is in the following range: a) The force can be from zero up to a force in tension
 when you shorten the pushrod by one turn of the rod end bearing.

 (4)  Adjust the lower gate.

 CAUTION:_______ MANUALLY LIFT THE LOWER GATE WHEN YOU CLOSE THE DOOR WITH
 THE LOWER PUSHROD DISCONNECTED.  DO NOT TRY TO CLOSE THE
 DOOR WITH THE LOWER GATE DOWN.  THIS CAN CAUSE DAMAGE TO

 THE SPLINE TORQUE SHAFT ON THE GIRT BAR MECHANISM.
 (a)  Manually lift the lower gate and close and latch the door.
 NOTE: You can use a flexible cord to keep the lower gate in
____ the up position.
 (b)  
Turn the handle toward the open position until you can connect the pushrod to the lower gate.

 (c)  
Connect the pushrod to the lower gate.

 (d)  
Close the door.

 (e)  
Adjust the lower gate pushrod to get the correct flushness of the lower gate as shown in Fig. 502.

 NOTE: Only one end of the gate pushrod is accessible, you can
____ remove the gate pushrod and attach the adjustable end of the pushrod to the torque tube. If you changed the gate pushrod from its original position, drill a drain hole in the lower end of the pushrod.
