 CARGO DOORS - DESCRIPTION AND OPERATION

General
_______
 A.  There are three cargo doors on the lower right side of the fuselage and one on the left side at the main deck level. The three lower doors provide access to the forward and aft lower main and bulk cargo compartments. The side cargo door provides access to the main deck level cargo area.
Side Cargo Door

 A.  The side cargo door is installed on the left side of the airplane aft of the wing between body stations 1780 and 1920. The door opens outward to permit cargo to be loaded onto the main deck for expanded cargo capability. Interior trim panels on and in the vicinity of the door are removed to convert from a passenger carrying configuration to a cargo carrying configuration.
 B.  The door is hinged at the top by a piano-type hinge and opens outward by an integrated manual-electric system. The door is manually locked and electrically latched and opened. The electrically powered mechanisms can be overridden manually. Rain seals and drip shields are installed at the hinge line of the door to prevent water from entering the cabin when the door is left open in inclement weather. Pressure and acoustic seals are installed around the door to reduce noise and pressure loss. Ten latches along the lower edge and two midspan latches (one at each edge) secure the door closed. Forward and Aft Cargo Doors

 A.  The forward and aft cargo compartment doors, located at body stations 615 and 1865 respectively, are outward-opening doors. The doors are operated by an integrated manual and electrical system. Door pressurization loads are transmitted to the fuselage by eight door latches at the bottom edge and a piano-type hinge at the upper edge. A pressure seal and rain seal are installed on the cargo doors. For additional information, refer to 52-34-00/001, Forward/Aft Cargo Doors.
Bulk Cargo Door

 A.  The bulk cargo compartment door, located at body station 2007, is an inward-opening, plug-type, hinged door. The weight of the door is compensated by a balance mechanism. Pressurization loads on the door are transmitted to the fuselage by sixteen adjustable stop fittings at the forward, aft, and lower edges and two hinge arms at the upper edge of the door. A pressure seal, around the periphery, prevents pressure losses and rain leakage when the door is closed. For additional information, refer to 52-36-00/001, Bulk Cargo Door.

 NOSE CARGO DOOR SYSTEM - DESCRIPTION AND OPERATION

 1.  General_______
 A.  The nose cargo door system is provided to allow large cargo containers to be loaded through the nose of the airplane. The system consists of a door that hinges upward just forward of the windshield, a latching system, a drive unit and two linear actuators and a push-pull cam actuator. A control panel is provided at the loadmasters control station.
 B.  The door latching system consists of latch locations numbered from 1 to 10, left and right, with latch number 11 located at top center. Latches 1 through 8, left and right, are operated by electrical actuators while latches 9, 10 and 11 are latched by fixed pins.
 C.  The door warning system provides the flight crew with a visual warning if the door is not properly closed, latched and locked (AMM 52-71-00).
 D.  The nose cargo door is designed to be left open in any position in winds up to 65 knots without structural damage. The door is designed to operate normally in winds up to 40 knots, but may be operated safely in winds up to 65 knots. However, if the door is operated in winds above 40 knots, the drive system may stall or the latches may not perfectly align.
 E.  The door is provided with electrical power from the APU or the external electrical power. It takes less than two minutes to open or close the door. When fully open, the door extends to a height of 37 ft and 8 inches to 40 ft 5 inches. The height depends on the gross weight and the center of gravity of the airplane.
