Procedure

 S 404-017
 (1)  Remove the seal from the old hatch and install on the new hatch if it is necessary (Ref 52-09-02/201).

 WARNING:_______MAKE SURE THE HATCH IS INSTALLED CORRECTLY. MAKE SURE THE LATCH PIN ENGAGES CORRECTLY AND THE KEEPER FITTINGS ALIGN CORRECTLY. IF THE HATCH IS NOT INSTALLED CORRECTLY, IT WILL NOT OPERATE CORRECTLY.
 (2)  
Install the hatch as follows:

 (a)  
Put the hatch in the opening with the hinge arms aligned with the hinge brackets. Latch the hatch.

 (b)  
Install the spacer, washers, bolt, and nut at the two hinge arm and bracket locations (View B). Make sure you install the washers in the correct sequence and position.

 (3)  
Adjust the hatch as follows:

 (a)  
Make sure the clearance between the fuselage skin and the hatch skin is correct (Fig. 402).

 (b)  
Move the washers from one side of the hinge arm to the other side to adjust the hatch.

 (c)  
On a new hatch, do these steps: 1) Remove the unwanted material from the hatch skin to get the

 correct skin clearance between the fuselage and the hatch. 2) Break the sharp edges of the cut skin.

 (d)  
Tighten the hatch stop fitting bolts nearest to the external skin to 25-30 pound-inches.

 (e)  
Tighten the bolts nearest to the internal skin to 20-25 pound-inches.

 (f)  
Adjust the keeper fittings on the serrated plates until the hatch has the correct flushness with the fuselage (Fig. 402).

 (g)  
Add or remove the laminations of shim at the four hatch stop fittings to get the clearance shown (View C).

 (4)  
On a new hatch, apply a layer of the clear Alodene with a brush (Ref 51-21-04/701).

 (5)  
Open and close the hatch. Make sure it operates correctly.

 (6)  
Install the acoustic pad as follows:

 (a)  
Align the velcro tape on the acoustic pad with the velcro tape on the hatch internal panel.

 (b)  
Attach the acoustic pad to the hatch internal panel.

 (c)  
Push the edges of the acoustic pad into the opening in the ceiling panel.
