 2)  Procedure B. This procedure uses adhesive and an open-mesh Dacron fabric patch to repair the damaged seal. a) Cut a Dacron fabric patch to fit the area that you will
 repair. b) Apply the adhesive to the repair area on the seal. c) Push the fabric patch into the wet adhesive. d) Apply more adhesive on the patch. e) Make the surface of the adhesive smooth. f) Apply pressure to make sure the parts are fully bonded. g) Let the adhesive dry for the necessary time before the

Prepare to Repair the Seal
 S 348-044
 (1)  
Make a decision about the correct adhesive.

 (a)  
Use Type I adhesive for the parts of the seal that are not flexible.

 NOTE: Do not use Type I adhesive on the diaphragm seals or on

 the lip of the blade seals.

 (b)  
Use Type II adhesive where it is necessary for the seal to be very flexible.

 (c)  
Use Type III adhesive for fast repairs.

 NOTE:____Type III is very flexible. You can use it on all parts of the seal.

Type II adhesives (Dow Corning Silastic 140 RTV or Silastic 731 RTV and General Electric RTV 174) have only one part. It is not necessary to prepare a Type II adhesive before you use it.

Mix the parts of the Type I adhesive.

 (a)  
Put together only the quantity of the adhesive that is necessary.

 (b)  
Weigh the parts to get the correct ratio.

 (c)  
Use 100 parts of General Electric SR-529 adhesive to 4.5 parts of SC-3900 catalyst.

 NOTE: The pot life is 8 hours at 70°F.

Mix the parts of the Type III adhesive.

 (a)  
Put together only the quantity of the adhesive that is necessary.

 (b)  
Do these steps to mix the Dow Corning adhesive: 1) Weigh the parts to get the correct ratio. 2) Use 100 parts of Dow Corning 93-076-1/2 or -2 resin to 10

 parts of catalyst.
 NOTE: The pot life is 2 hours.

 (c)  Do these steps to mix the RTV 700 adhesive:
 1) Select the correct catalyst.
