Install the lower shaft on the hinge arm splines (Detail A).

Install the lower coupling.

 (h)  
Make sure you install the bolt in the lower shaft groove (Detail B).

 (i)  
Connect the upper and lower couplings.

 (j)  
Install the bearing plate and the fasteners.

 (k)  
Fill the empty space above the bearing between the torque tube and the bearing plate with grease to prevent the entry of water. 1) Apply grease above the bearing between the torque tube and

 the bearing plate to prevent the entry of water.

 (l)  
Tighten the lower adjusting nut.

 (2)  
Adjust the door vertical position (AMM 52-11-01/501).

 (a)  
Tighten or loosen the lower adjusting nut to lift or lower the door to align with the vertical reference lines.

 NOTE: These are the reference lines you made on the door and
____ body skins before you replace the torque tube.
 (b)  
If the reference lines are not available, lift or lower the door to get the necessary skin clearance.

 CAUTION:_______DO NOT TIGHTEN THE ADJUSTING NUT TOO TIGHT. THIS WILL NOT LET THE BEARING MOVE FREELY. IT CAN CAUSE DAMAGE TO THE BEARING.

 (c)  
Tighten the upper adjusting nut sufficiently to remove the play in the torque tube.

 (d)  
Lock the tab washers on the upper and lower adjusting nuts.

 (3)  
If the adjustment of the door vertical position is not satisfactory, adjust the door (AMM 52-11-01/501).

Put the Airplane Back to Its Usual Condition

 WARNING:_______YOU MUST NOT MOVE THE INTERNAL OR EXTERNAL DOOR HANDLE. IF YOU MOVE THE HANDLE, THE DOOR CAN ACCIDENTALLY OPEN. THIS CAN CAUSE INJURY TO PERSONS AND DAMAGE TO THE DOOR AND STRUCTURE.
 (1)  
Make sure the door is closed and latched.

 (2)  
Do this step to make the vertical position mark of the door in the opening:

 (a)  
Put the reference lines at the forward and aft edges of the door and body skins.

 NOTE: You will adjust the door vertically to align these
____ reference lines after you replace the torque tube. If the door does not return to the same vertical position before you replace the torque tube, you can adjust these components:
 -
The latch roller

 -
The stop pin on the lower gate

 -
The emergency power trigger

 -
The shear pin clearance

 -
The girt bar mechanism.

 (b)  
Make the vertical position mark of the door in the opening.

 (3)  
Remove the handle mechanism pushrod at the cocking crank.
