(c) 6) Connect the coverplates (10) to the pedestals (13).If you removed the cam (49) from housing (21) as part of the external handles (9) and the center shaft (45), do these steps to install the cam:
1) Apply primer to the laminated shim (53). 2) Install the laminated shim (53) of the thickness you measured in the removal.
(d) 3) Install the cam (49) on the housing (21). 4) Make sure the bearing in the cam is correctly installed. 5) Attach the cam (49) to the housing (21) with three bolts (57), washers (56), bearing retainers (55) and seal washers (50). a) Tighten the bolts 13-60 pound-inches.If the cam (49) is not a part of the external handles (9) and the center shaft assembly (45), do these steps to install them: 1) Apply primer to the laminated shim (58). 2) Install the laminated shim (58) on the outer shaft (48).
NOTE: Use the shim of the same thickness.____
(e) (f) (g) (h) 3) Put the outer shaft (48), center shaft (45) and handles (9) as a unit in the basket cam (49) in the housing (21). 4) Install the bearing spacer (51). 5) Use the adapter wrench to attach the outer shaft (48) in the basket cam (49) with the spanner nut (52). a) Tighten the nut 350-450 pound-inches.Put the thrust collar (16, Detail A) in the yoke (18) and move to the center shaft (45). 1) Connect the yoke to the dangler (15) with the bolt (42), washer (43) and nut (17).Put the thrust washer (25) against the yoke (18) and attach it to the center shaft (45) with the yoke attachment nut (39). 1) Tighten the yoke attachment nut to 250-350 pound-inches.Make sure the yoke (18) is free to move.Apply a thin layer of grease to the clutch collar (26) and OD of the inner shaft (24).

Move the clutch collar (26) on the inner shaft (24).
(j)
Install the spring depressor (19), spacer (40) and spring (23) in the inner shaft (24). 1) Install the inner shaft in the center shaft (45).
(k)
Make sure the door is closed and the external handles (9) are in their positions.
(l)
Install the support fitting (27) and the laminated shim (38) on the housing (21) with the bolts (35) and washers (36).
NOTE: You can install a used or new shim of the same
____ thickness. Push the inner shaft against the spring with a force of approximately 16 pounds to install the support fitting.
1) Install the lockwire, if there are holes on the bolt heads.

Connect the upper and lower control rods (41, 86, View E) to the inner latch crank (87), if you removed them.
(n)
Install the control cam (28) on the inner shaft (24) and install the washer (34) and nut (33).
CAUTION: MAKE SURE THE OFFSET BOLT HOLES ON THE STUB SHAFT ALIGN
_______ WITH THE SHIM (29) AND THE CONTROL CAM (28) BEFORE YOU INSTALL THE FASTENERS. IT CAN CAUSE DAMAGE IF THE HOLES ARE NOT ALIGNED.
(o) Align the offset bolt holes on the stub shaft (30) with the shims (29) and the control cam (28). 1) Install the bolts (32), washers (31) and lockwire.

If you replaced the cam follower bearing do these steps to make sure it is installed correctly.
(a)
Fully extend the external handles (9).
1) Make sure the outboard end of the center shaft (45) moves a minimum distance of 0.55 inch.
