5) Install the retainer plate [30] with the washer [35] and nut [34].
6) Tighten the nut [34] on the roller [28] to 95-110 pound-inches (10.7 to 12.4 newtonmeters).
(d) Use the crankshaft [3] to manually retract the aft flap assembly [2] to the retracted position.
(e) Install the rig pin in the crankshaft [3].
(f) Make sure the vertical alignment of the trailing edge of the aft flap assembly [2] and the
main flap [1] is in the limit.

(7) Measure the clearance between the upper cove panel [61] on the main flap [1] and the upper
surface of the aft flap assembly [2] (Figure 402).
NOTE: Measure the clearance at all of the cove panel supports [62] and at the aft flap roller
fittings [76].

(8) If the clearance between the main flap [1] and the aft flap assembly [2] is not in the limit of 0.010
+0.100/-0.005 inch (0.254 +2.54/-0.12 millimeters), then change the thickness of the shims [75]
on the cove panel support [62] and the aft flap roller fittings [76]:
(a) Remove the rig pin from the crankshaft [3].
(b) Use the crankshaft [3] to manually extend the aft flap assembly [2] until you can get access
to the fasteners for the shims [75] and [77]
(c) If it is necessary, change the thickness of the shims [75] on the cove panel supports [62]:
1) Remove the nuts [74], washers [73] and bolts [72] that attach the upper cove panel [61]
to the cove panel support [62].
2) Remove the shim [75] from the cove panel support [62] and the upper cove panel [61].
3) Change the thickness of the shim [75].
NOTE: The maximum permitted thickness of the shim [75] is 0.10 inch (2.54
millimeters).
4) Apply sealant, A00247 to the mating surfaces of the shim [75].
5) Put the shim [75] in its position between the cove panel support [62] and the upper cove
panel [61].
6) Apply a layer of compound, C00913 to the shank and threads of the bolts [72].
7) Install the bolts [72], washers [73] and nuts [74].
(d) If it is necessary, change the thickness of the shims [77] on the aft flap roller fittings [76]:
1) Remove the nuts [80], washers [79] and bolts [78] that attach the upper cove panel [61]
to the aft flap roller fitting [76].
2) Remove the shims [77] from the aft flap roller fitting [76] and the upper cove panel [61].

(e) Use the crankshaft [3] to manually retract the aft flap assembly [2] to the retracted position.
(f) Install the rig pin in the crankshaft [3].
(g) Make sure the clearance between the main flap [1] and the aft flap assembly [2] is in the
limit.

(9) Measure the clearance between the lower cove panel [68] on the main flap [1] and the lower
surface of the aft flap assembly [2].
NOTE: Measure the clearance at the two lower cove panel supports [62].

(10) If the clearance between the main flap [1] and the aft flap assembly [2] is not in the limit of 0.000
±0.060 inch (0.000 ±1.52 millimeters), then change the thickness of the shims [81] on the lower
cove panel support [68]:
(a) Remove the rig pin from the crankshaft [3].
(b) Use the crankshaft [3] to manually extend the aft flap assembly [2] until you can get access
to the fasteners for the shims [81].
(c) Change the thickness of the shims [81] on the cove panel supports [62]:
1) Remove the nuts [71], washers [70] and bolts [69] that attach the lower cove panel [68]
to the cove panel support [62].
2) Remove the shim [81] from the cove panel support [62] and the lower cove panel [68].
3) Change the thickness of the shim [81].
NOTE: The maximum permitted thickness of the shim [81] is 0.10 inch (2.54
millimeters).
4) Apply sealant, A00247 to the mating surfaces of the shim [81].
5) Put the shim [81] in its position between the cove panel support [62] and the lower cove
panel [68].
