2) On the left wing, make sure the ball returns [25] on the ballscrew nuts [26] are
outboard.
3) On the right wing, make sure the ball returns [25] on the ballscrew nuts [26] are
inboard.
NOTE: This is the preferred position for maintenance.

(f) Apply grease, D00633 to the inside and outside surfaces of the carriage bushing [21] and
carriage bushing [27].
1) Install the carriage bushing [21] and carriage bushing [27] to attach the gimbal [20] to
the carriage [13].
CAUTION: MAKE SURE THE CARRIAGE BUSHINGS ALIGN WITH THE CARRIAGE
BEFORE YOU INSTALL THE BOLTS. THE THREADS ON THE BOLTS CAN
CAUSE DAMAGE TO THE CARRIAGE BUSHINGS IF THEY DO NOT
ALIGN.
2) Turn the carriage bushing [21] and carriage bushing [27] in the carriage [13] to make
sure the groove aligns with the bolt hole.
3) Install the bolts [22], washers [23] and nuts [24] to hold the carriage bushing [21] and
carriage bushing [27] in the carriage [13].
4) Tighten the nuts [24] to 65-75 pound-inches (6.8-8.4 newton-meters) more than the runon
torque.

(2) Install the stop fittings on the flap tracks:
(a) On the outboard track [41], install the roller stop [32], roller stop [42] and fairing attach
fitting [36]:
1) Apply compound, C00913 to the mating surfaces of the fairing attach fitting [36], roller
stop [32] and roller stop [42].
2) Put the roller stop [32], roller stop [42] and fairing attach fitting [36] in their positions on
the outboard track [41].
NOTE: Make sure the roller stop [32] and roller stop [42] touch the web of the
outboard track [41].
3) Apply compound, C00913 to the shank and threads of the bolts [33] and bolts [37].
4) Install the bolts [37], washers [38], washers [39] and nuts [40] that attach the roller stop
[32], roller stop [42] and fairing attach fitting [36] to the outboard track [41].

5) Install the bolts [33], washers [34] and nuts [35] that attach the fairing attach fitting [36]
to the outboard track [41].
NOTE: Install the washers [34] with the countersunk outside diameter against the
outboard track [41].
(b) On the inboard track [53], install the roller stop [46], roller stop [54] and fairing attach fitting
[51]:
1) Apply compound, C00913 to the mating surfaces of the fairing attach fitting [51], roller
stop [46] and roller stop [54].
2) Put the roller stop [46], roller stop [54] and fairing attach fitting [51] in their positions on
the inboard track [53].
NOTE: Make sure the roller stop [46] and roller stop [54] touch the web of the inboard
track [53].
3) Apply compound, C00913 to the shank and threads of the bolts [47], bolts [52] and bolt
[43].
4) Install the bolts [47], washers [48], washers [49] and nuts [50] that attach the roller stop
[46], roller stop [54] and fairing attach fitting [51] to the inboard track [53].
5) Install the bolts [52], bolt [43], washers [44] and nuts [45] that attach the fairing attach
fitting [51] to the inboard track [53].
NOTE: Install the washers [44] with the countersunk outside diameter against the
inboard track [53].

(3) Remove the sling, SPL-1729 from the main flap assembly [1] (Figure 402):
(a) Disconnect the sling, SPL-1729 [72] from the 30 foot height (2000 lbs capacity) lift crane,
STD-1095.
(b) Disconnect the sling, SPL-1729 [72] from the sling fittings [71].
(c) Remove the sling fittings [71] from the main flap assembly [1].
(d) Apply compound, C00528 to the holes for the bolts [74] and bolts [75] in the main flap
assembly [1].
(e) Install the bolts [74] at the inboard and outboard ends of the main flap assembly [1].
(f) Install the bolts [75] at the front spar of the main flap assembly [1].

(4) Install the leading edge skin panel [55] on the main flap assembly [1] forward of the inboard
carriage [12]:
(a) These panels are:

(b) Put the leading edge skin panel [55] in its location on the leading edge of the main flap
assembly [1].
(c) Apply compound, C00528 to the holes for the bolts [56].
(d) Install the bolts [56] to attach the leading edge skin panel [55].
(e) Apply sealant, A00247 to fill all of the clearances around the leading edge skin panel [55]
