4) Put the shims [95] in their location between the aft link fitting [91] and the outboard
carriage [96].
NOTE: The nominal thickness of the shims [95] is 0.25 inch (6.35 mm). The maximum
thickness of the shims [95] is 0.50 inch (12.7 mm). The minimum thickness of
the shims [95] is 0.00 inch.
5) Apply compound, C00913 to the shank and threads of the bolts [92].
6) Install the bolts [92], washers [93] and nuts [94] that attach the aft link fitting [91] to the
outboard carriage [96].
(b) At the inboard carriage [101], change the thickness of the shims [95]:
1) Remove the nuts [100], washers [99] and bolts [98] that attach the aft link fitting [97] to
the inboard carriage [101].
2) Add or remove shims [95] between the aft link fitting [97] and the inboard carriage [101]
to get the correct shim thickness.
3) Apply sealant, A00247 to the mating surfaces of the shims [95].
4) Put the shims [95] in their location between the aft link fitting [97] and the inboard
carriage [101].
NOTE: The nominal thickness of the shims [95] is 0.25 inch (6.35 mm). The maximum
thickness of the shims [95] is 0.50 inch (12.7 mm). The minimum thickness of
the shims [95] is 0.00 inch.
5) Apply compound, C00913 to the shank and threads of the bolts [98].
6) Install the bolts [98], washers [99] and nuts [100] that attach the aft link fitting [97] to the
inboard carriage [101].

(3) Remove the outboard deflection control roller assembly [29] from the rib [28] (Figure 401):

(a) Remove these access panels, below the roller assembly [29]:

(b) Remove the bolts [30] and washers [31] that attach the roller assembly [29] to the rib [28].
(c) Remove the roller assembly [29] from the rib [28].

(4) If it is installed, remove the leading edge skin panel [55] from the main flap assembly [1] forward
of the inboard carriage [13]:
NOTE: This panel comes very close to the flap track [41] when you engage the inboard
carriage [13].

(b) Remove the bolts [56] that attach the leading edge skin panel [55].
(c) Remove the leading edge skin panel [55] from the main flap assembly [1].

(5) Make sure the stop fittings are not installed on the flap tracks.

(6) If it is not installed, install the sling, SPL-1729 on the main flap assembly [1] (Figure 402):
(a) Remove the bolts [75] at the front spar on the main flap assembly [1].
(b) Remove the bolts [74] at the inboard end and outboard ends of the main flap assembly [1].
NOTE: The bolts [74] are located along the rear spar, above the inboard and outboard
carriages [13].
(c) Install the sling fittings [71] in the location of the bolts [74] and bolts [75].
(d) Connect the sling, SPL-1729 to a 30 foot height (2000 lbs capacity) lift crane, STD-1095.
H. Outboard Trailing Edge Flap Installation
SUBTASK 27-51-21-420-001
(1) Install the main flap assembly [1] (Figure 401):
CAUTION: BE VERY CAREFUL WHEN YOU LIFT THE OUTBOARD FLAP FROM THE GROUND.
YOU CAN CAUSE DAMAGE TO THE TRAILING EDGE OF THE FLAP.
(a) Use the sling, SPL-1729 and the 30 foot height (2000 lbs capacity) lift crane, STD-1095 to
move the main flap assembly [1] up into its position aft of the main tracks.
(b) If the aft flap [2] is installed, make sure it is in the extended position.
(c) Engage the rollers on the carriages [13] with the flap track [41] and flap track [53].
NOTE: Engage the rollers for the outboard carriage [13] with the flap track [41] first. The
installation is easier if the rollers for the outboard carriage [13] start to engage the
flap track [41] before the rollers for the inboard carriage [13].

(d) Use the sling, SPL-1729 to move the main flap assembly [1] up and forward on the flap
tracks until the carriages [13] align with the gimbals [20].
(e) Connect the carriages [13] to the gimbals [20]:
1) Remove the support from the ballscrew [19] and move the gimbal [20] to its position in
