(c) Remove the leading edge skin panel [55] from the main flap assembly [1].

(4) Install the sling, SPL-1729 on the main flap assembly [1] (Figure 402):
(a) Remove the bolts [74] at the inboard end and outboard ends of the main flap assembly [1].
NOTE: The bolts [74] are located along the rear spar, above the inboard and outboard
carriages [13].
(b) Remove the bolts [75] at the front spar on the main flap assembly [1].
(c) Install the sling fittings [71] in the location of the bolts [74] and bolts [75].
(d) Connect the sling, SPL-1729 [72] to a 30 foot height (2000 lbs capacity) lift crane, STD-1095.
(e) Use the sling, SPL-1729 [72] to hold the weight of the outboard flap.

(5) Remove the stop fittings from the flap tracks (Figure 401):
(a) On the outboard track [41], remove the roller stop [32], roller stop [42] and fairing attach
fitting [36]:
1) Remove the nuts [40], washers [39], washers [38] and bolts [37] that attach the roller
stop [32], roller stop [42] and fairing attach fitting [36] to the outboard track [41].

2) Remove the roller stop [32] and roller stop [42] from the outboard track [41].
3) Remove the nuts [35], washers [34] and bolts [33] that attach the fairing attach fitting
[36] to the outboard track [41].
4) Remove the fairing attach fitting [36] from the outboard track [41].
(b) On the inboard track [53], remove the roller stop [46], roller stop [54] and fairing attach
fitting [51]:
1) Remove the nuts [50], washers [49], washers [48] and bolts [47] that attach the roller
stop [46], roller stop [54] and fairing attach fitting [51] to the inboard track [53].
2) Remove the roller stop [46] and roller stop [54] from the inboard track [53].
3) Remove the nuts [45], washers [44], bolt [43] and bolts [52] that attach the fairing attach
fitting [51] to the inboard track [53].
4) Remove the fairing attach fitting [51] from the inboard track [53].

(6) Remove the main flap assembly [1]:
(a) Hold the weight of the main flap assembly [1] with the sling, SPL-1729 [71].
(b) Disconnect the carriages [13] from the gimbals [20]:
1) Install a support to hold the ballscrews [19] and gimbals [20] when they are
disconnected from the carriages [13].
2) Remove the nuts [24], washers [23] and bolts [22] from the carriages [13].
3) Remove the inboard carriage bushings [27] and the outboard carriage bushings [21]
from the gimbals [20] and the carriages [13].
(c) Move the gimbals [20] away from the carriages [13].
CAUTION: BE VERY CAREFUL WHEN YOU LOWER THE FLAP TO THE GROUND. YOU CAN
CAUSE DAMAGE TO THE TRAILING EDGE OF THE FLAP.
(d) Use the sling, SPL-1729 and the 30 foot height (2000 lbs capacity) lift crane, STD-1095 to
move the main flap assembly [1] aft and down away from the tracks.

(7) Measure and record the thickness of the shims [95] at the inboard carriage [96] and the outboard
carriage [101].
NOTE: You will use this dimension during the installation.
