(d) Move the seal [47] and the retainer [48].
NOTE: Make sure you move the seal [47] and the retainer [48] together as a unit.
(e) Tighten the nuts [46] on the retainer [48].
(f) Lift the aft end of the aft fairing assembly [44] to align the drive rod [57] with the carriage
[49].
(g) Install the bushing [52], bolt [50], washer [51], washer [53] and nut [54] to attach the drive
rod [57] to the carriage [49].
NOTE: Install the bolt [50] with the head on the outboard side.
(h) Install the cotter pin [55] in the nut [54].

I. Outboard Flap Inboard Forward Fairing Adjustment
SUBTASK 27-51-28-220-005
(1) Measure the mismatch between the forward fairing assembly [43] and the aft fairing
assembly [44].
NOTE: Measure the mismatch on the inboard side and on the bottom of the forward fairing
assembly [43].
(a) Make sure the mismatch is in the limit of +0.03 to -0.01 inch (+0.76 to -0.25 millimeter).
NOTE: A positive (+) mismatch is when the forward fairing assembly [43] extends past
the aft fairing assembly [44]. A negative (-) mismatch is when the aft fairing
assembly [44] extends past the forward fairing assembly [43].

(2) Make sure the seals [66] on the sides of the forward fairing assembly [43] are compressed 10 to
25 percent against the lower surface of the main flap [42].

(3) If the mismatch is not in the limit or if the seals [66] are not compressed correctly, do this task:

(4) If the mismatch between the forward fairing assembly [43] and the aft fairing assembly [44] is not
in the limit, then adjust the position of the forward fairing assembly [43]:
(a) If the mismatch is not in the limit on the inboard side of the forward fairing assembly [43],
adjust the position of the fairing attach fitting [64]:
1) Loosen the bolts [63] that attach the fairing attach fitting [64] to the transmission attach
fitting [62].
2) Move the fairing attach fitting [64] inboard or outboard to get the mismatch in the
clearance.
3) Tighten the bolts [63].
4) Install lockwire on bolts [63].
(b) If the mismatch is not in the limit on the bottom of the forward fairing assembly [43], change
the thickness of the shims [65].
1) Apply primer, C00259 to the mating surfaces of the shim [65] and the fairing attach
fitting [64].

(5) If the seals [66] are not compressed evenly against the lower surface of the main flap [42], adjust
the position of the seals [66]:
(a) Loosen the nuts [67] on the retainer [68].
(b) Move the seal [66] and the retainer [68].
(c) Tighten the nuts [67] that hold the retainer [68].
